This should be the attitude for the basketball schools in this state to enhance the visibility and interest of college basketball in Alabama.

Im good with playing them also although without media pushing it I don't think it will be well attended or be much of anything. If you think UAB's home attendance was bad just look at Samfords.
As far as Bucky goes he is going to have to rebuild a lot of bridges he has burned with some high school coaches especially here in Birmingham where he is not well liked by most of the City school coaches for his attempted "poaching" of some of the talent. Yes a lot of high schools do this now days but it wont help him recruiting the city of Birmingham

Playing local saves dollars. Travel, hotel, food, and missed class time. From what is being told most athletic departments are broke--- here is a chance to save some money. Try a H-H for two years then evaluate IMO.

Samford does not have good home attendance but they would bring more fans to Bartow than most if not all of our other games

Just thought I would stop this lie in process.

It isn’t a lie. 58-56 is enough to last a lifetime. Nobody discusses them on our board unless they are a secondary fan.

We have played them seven
times already so I don’t want to hear why don’t you play them. That said I don’t have a problem even going home and home with them. Bring it on. Only one guy said he was crooked and only one guy doesn’t want to play then. Before I accuse anther HS coach of cheating I’d have to throw my own under the bus and they sucked at it.

They do come up every year when we discuss scheduling. Someone will say why don’t we play them. Then me or someone else Will say sure let’s do a HH. We were going to start a series last year with them and it fell through because we would have had to chose between them and Texas and Kentucky due to limited open dates at the time. A series is being discussed this season and I hope it happens.

Exactly. UAB fans want to play Bama. They claim they dont just like a guy will claim a girls not that cute after she rejects him. As for why UAB doesnt play Samford, I dont understand it. Im not sure what the fan interest would be on either side but its certainly better than UAB playing a Division II school. Id be all for it.

Brook is not the only school in Alabama that does that. The vast majority of his players are spoiled white kids. He is a very good hire for a school at Samford's level. He was 333-74. People can point to Gerry Faust to prove no high school coach is a good hire. That's total BS. Bill Clark, Gus Malzahn, Bill Snyder, David Cutcliff, Tommy Tuberville, Chad Morris, Chip Kelly, and Urban Meyer all started as high school coaches. Anyone can pick and choose one example to prove whatever point they want to make. Jumping from high school to college or college to the pros is a huge change. It will take a couple of years to adjust. Some will make the adjustment others are more suited to a different level.

Two words: Dan D'Antoni, Yes Dan coached 1 year at the collegiate level. Mike D'Antoni's freshman team. But then again that was 49 years ago. He was a HS HC for 30 years though from 1975-2005.

It can be done but its not that easy,

He was an NBA assistant for 10 years!

I hsve not seen one example in this thread of a coach who went straight from HS to being a D1 head coach that hasn’t been a disaster.

Bucky recruited his former B’ham Southern coach, Duane Reboul, as a special advisor to help him. Coach Reboul was very successful at the NAIA level winning one National Championship. He also coached BSC during BSC’s short stay in D1 winning the Big South regular season one season. I believe that Coach Reboul will be a positive influence.

I have zero desire to play them in football until their current coach is gone and they make another Shula or Dubose type hire. In basketball I would rather weight until we don't suck.
