Coronavirus, guns & ammo
Speaking of coronavirus and guns, I just finished watching a newly posted YouTube video on one of the more popular gun channels. Dude is tied into the industry, and claims to have spent all day today talking to ammo and gun manufacturers. He passed along quite a few interesting points:

1. Gun sales in the past 24 hours have been the highest in U.S. history. Ever. And the gun industry is older than this country.

2. 75% to 80% of all gun purchases in the past week have been made by first time gun buyers.

3. Like any business making high demand products, manufacturers are limited by their existing capacity and by raw material suppliers, both for guns and for ammo. Bottom line, that means when unusual demand strikes, prices go up.

4. A complicating factor is that local cities and towns all over the country have mayors who are temporarily banning the sale of guns and ammo. That's unconstitutional and contrary to federal law, so if you ignore the ban and are caught, you will have court costs, but in the end, you would win, assuming you could afford the attorney fees.

5. As one would expect, not only are gun sales at an all-time high, but there is a huge rush on ammo, specifically 9mm, .223/5.56 and 45ACP, the most common home defense calibers. Few stores or online outlets have much stock left in those calibers.

6. The one exception for the short term is Russian ammo. B/c the lead times are so long, orders have already been placed to carry through the end of the year, so right now, they still have supply for the foreseeable future, unless people just go crazy.

7. For now, there doesn't seem to be a run on magazines, and they are still normal price, so if you want more mags, now is the time to do it.

8. And if you need .22 ammo, now is the time to get that, too, b/c once the other high demand ammo runs out, people will switch to training with .22s.

9. There is a perception in the gun/ammo buying community right now that personal movement will become much more restricted in the near future. Whether that becomes reality doesn't matter, b/c fear is driving the market. That fear translates to people being afraid others will start burglarizing houses for food and supplies.

10. Making the ammo situation worse is that if this virus stuff is still an issue by late August (Trump said yesterday it is possible), that's when a natural spike in sales starts, due to hurricane season. On top of that, this is a presidential election year, and both Biden and Bernie have made it clear, if elected, they will go after tougher gun laws (they can do a lot by Executive Order), so that just adds on top of everything else, for both guns and ammo.

Good.

Keep em guessing. Obiden or the commie can’t come for us all.

Which door y’all wanna kick in first?

THIS, right here, is the brilliance of those 230 yrs ago and their foresight.

Without that rather simple 2nd amendment, not many of the others matter.

So, in short, dump the Cruise line stock, buy you some Smith and Wesson!

Makes sense with certain towns/cities saying they're not gonna arrest looters.

True. And not respond to home burglaries.

I swore after the empty shelves of 2012 I’d never get caught empty handed again. Picked up every platform I wanted and enough ammo that my kids will be dealing with full ammo tins long after I’m gone.

The old joke about the zombie apocalypse? Those who don’t have guns are just collecting supplies for those who do.

LOL. Guess you don't own guns.

We're not going to shoot the virus. We're going to shoot the idiots who get desperate and try to take our stuff.

Not a gun owner. For my own self-interest I won't let my wife get a Taser... You think I'm gonna let her put her hands on a gun??? 03-lmfao

That said I'm not anti-gun, and I do have access if things really take a turn that way.

For the time being I think it's about as useful as stockpiling TP.

For the time being I think it's about as useful as stockpiling TP.

A year ago, my SiL (my daughter's husband and father to my 2 grandsons) woke up in the middle of the night and heard footsteps in his house. He took his Glock with him, saw the guy coming down from upstairs, yelled at him, and the dude bolted out the front door.

Without that Glock, he could have lost a lot of belongings, or even worse, his life and those of his family.

P.S. The Glock worked a helluva lot better than if he had confronted the dude with a roll of toilet paper.

And they live in an upscale suburban neighborhood, so nobody is immune. And with the current situation, things could go south in a hurry.

Better to have a gun and not need it, than vice versa.

Well we both agreed no guns. She wanted a Taser, but I put my foot down. I said, "hell no you'll Tase me every day!". She told her best friend, who said, "hell no, you'll Tase him every day!"

Now as for the reason behind the probable Tasing, it's equal parts me and her. She flies off the handle but I "might" provoke that occasionally. We agree to disagree on whose fault it is. But we've done so for over 20 years, and that ain't changing. 04-cheers

Not sure what you're insinuating and I won't assume. She's human and so am I. We both have our faults, and we both have our strengths. We're also still very much in love after 20+ years. I've got no complaints...as long as she doesn't get her hands on a Taser. 01-lauramac2

Jokes? All you have are weak jokes? People like you will be among the first casualties, and not from the virus.

One of the most amusing things about the huge spike in gun purchasers are that it's driven primarily by first time gun buyers many of whom are liberals. These people had no idea what one goes through to purchase a weapon legally from a reputable dealer. They actually thought because of all the crazy rhetoric from anti-2A fools that you could just walk up to the counter, pick out your weapon, and walk out of the store.

Not sure buying a gun and some ammo isn't a bad idea. IF this crap hangs around 18 months it's going to get really bad need to be prepared to defend your home.

RE: Coronavirus, guns & ammo
A good friend recently went out of town to meet another friend of ours at a casino in Hollywood FL leaving his wife home alone. About 1130 she awoke to the sound the door knob of her locked bedroom door jiggling. It lasted a few seconds and stopped. At first she thought her husband had returned home early and since they maintain separate sleeping arrangements she just went back to sleep. She awoke again about an hour later and wondered why her husband hadn't come back to her bedroom wanting in to tell her he was home. She got up and went into the main living area to find that it had been tossed. She went to the front window and noticed her car door standing open so she went back to her bedroom and retrieved her handgun, she has a carry permit and is trained. She started going from room to room, why she didnt call 911 first is another exercise she needs to practice, and when she got to her husbands room she found a guy passed out naked in the bed, she knew it wasn't her husband because she saw a pair of black legs sticking out from under the blanket, her husband is white. She yelled at the intruder and when he jumped up she leveled her pistol at him. She told him not to move or she'd shoot. She then called 911, silly woman, and about 10 minutes later the cops showed up in force. She ran out the front door screaming it was she who called and the man was still inside. Rather than confront the intruder they sent the dog in after him. Needless to say he came out being dragged by the dog whereupon they seized him and arrested him. Inside they found a crack pipe and his stash.

Had she not been armed that could have gone a whole lot worse for her. Had she got up and opened her door it could have gone much worse for her. It was all avoidable as she had left her garage door opener in her car and her car unlocked as well as the garage entry door into the house unlocked. Lesson learned.

Get a gun and get the appropriate training needed to defend yourself and your family. If you don't and something happens to them you are responsible for it, not legally but in your own head, where you'll regret not taking the necessary steps to protect them. That's something that should be done in the best of times and even more during these trying times and the bad days ahead that may well come.

RE: Coronavirus, guns & ammo
I laugh every time somebody asks me why I conceal carry. Legit estimates are that somewhere between 500K and 2M self defense situations occur every year in this country, where the crime was thwarted by a good guy with a gun.

I have an uncle who was robbed at gunpoint on a city street in Memphis. Parents whose home was burglarized twice. Daughter's family had a home invasion in the middle of the night. SiL's car was stolen from her drive while she and her husband slept. On the other side of the wall from the carport. Nephew who was pistol whipped on his porch in broad daylight during a home invasion. Two houses down the street from mine had home invasions.

And none of these peeps were living in a high crime area in the city. Either in the upper middle suburbs, or in rural areas.

Ahhh, so you're saying that your wife and you are like George Costanzas parents. Hmmm, I get the idea. They're constantly fighting...for everything.

That was me and my ex. Everything turned into an argument and she was violent too. She actually pointed a gun at me one time and it was the last time, we permanently separated after that. I couldn't press charges on her and leave her kids without a mom. I'm surprised that they're so well adjusted with a mom like her...and a dad like me. LOL
