RE: State of emergency
This is a classic case of being the Amity mayor in Jaws. Sometimes it's good to panic, or rather, act out of an abundance of caution—even if it means taking an economic hit.

However, the same people needling him about reversing course were the ones telling me I'm nuts (or even racist) for suggesting all travel to China be shut down in January—referring to our fourth estate here.

There's a certain logic to economics trumping reacting to a crisis; if you are overly panicking, you will harm people's lives and livelihoods for nothing. And even though shutting down travel from China totally would have helped, there's still a high chance it was too late, and Trump should have recognized that. Even the most foolproof policy really can't stop all of the fools.

For anyone willing to notice, this was apparent very early in January it was going to be a pandemic way beyond SARS or MERS.

RE: State of emergency
Heard Dr. Drew Pinsky on radio today. Said the news media is blowing pandemic out of proportion to point the panic is worse than the virus, and that state and local governments are overreacting.

Said if we all just listen to Dr. Fauci and do what he advises (hand washing, social distancing, etc.) we'll get through this relatively unscathed and soon, largely due to strength of our health-medical infrastructure and preparedness.

Well, I like his optimism. Hope he is correct.
Stay safe, Broncos.

RE: State of emergency
This whole thing is so surreal. My courthouse is closed to the public, which is a very strange thing. No hearings for me unless "essential". Cops not arresting unless very serious or violent offense. I do find that people are taking the social distancing seriously for the most part. Some folks don't like getting too close anyway, so this gives them an excuse.

I agree that no sports sucks. But (and I am serious about this) being a sports fan from the state of Michigan over the last few years, we are somewhat preconditioned to this, having had no good pro sports worth watching for a few years. I honestly dont miss it nearly as much as I would if we had contending teams to watch.

MLB will ultimately start when it probably should normally start. Weather is often lousy from late March through mid April in the northern cities. We can still determine the best teams in the league if we shave about 30 games off a 162-game season.

To avoid shutting off the season prematurely, I wonder if NCAA Football would consider a condensed season, in case of a possible COVID 2.0. Maybe run it September & October?

If 80 degree temps and Sunlight inactivate the virus,
the earlier the better.

Not the P5s. Too much money involved.

Why should fans to go games if there's not champions crowned at the end? We already experienced that w/ basketball & hockey.

You didn't understand me. The P5s aren't going to condense their seasons. They are going to play CC games in December, playoff games and big bowls in January. Same as they have been. TV paying them too much not too.
