If Lindsey pulls a Tyson Summers, and starts the season 0-6 or even 1-5, then yes, I'd say Lindsey would be shown the door.

Going from 10-3 under the previous coach to 5-7 with the new staff and then starting next season 0-6 would be an almost identical scenario to ours. Y'all should definitely force reset if that happens. 0-6 is unacceptable especially at Troy where expectations are high.

0% chance of 0-6, and while that might sound like an exaggeration, take a look at our first five games: Pine Bluff, UMASS, NCSTATE, South Alabama, Texas State. The next two are ULM and Georgia State, who both lose QBs that were a huge reason they won the games they did. 7-0 is unlikely, but possible, even with a mediocre team. Very weird to say, but I wouldn't say that's an untrue statement.

The last five games are a doozy: at Arkansas State, at Georgia Southern, vs Coastal Carolina, at Tennessee, at Appalachian State.

I think Troy wins between 6 and 8 games this year. The offense will rock along. The defense will get better with the experience they now have in the secondary and the JUCO guys coming in. Biggest upgrade though is Rusty Whitt - the new strength coach.

I'm not sold at all on this staff, but I have seen enough things to be optimistic that we will at least improve.

5. Talk about your QB situation if there's not an obvious returning starter:
(Who replaces Evans, Ellington, and Barker? Will Logan Bonner get his job back from Layne Hatcher? Will the struggling offenses of USA and Texas State go in a new direction?)

1) USA - just based on their last 2 season records.

2) Oline - We need to open holes to get the running game going. We have inexperienced qbs that will need time to read the defense.

3) Steve Campbell - last 2 years not good, with a new stadium need more than 2 or 3 win season.

4) Arkansas State - They will play Lafayette, then Georgia Southern prior to that game.

5) Trotter will be the starter, he took over late in the season and was an effective qb. We had longer drives, didn't have all the big plays but the defense got some rest.

I would have answered these questions myself but Kevinwsm already posted all the correct responses.

I could agree with that. I think there is enough returning experience to even have a 10+ win season. But it's hard to have that kind of expectation after what happened last year.

If Troy can once again find a very good QB, we should be pretty good. I think the offense would be good enough to overcome any defensive issues... and it looks to me like the JUCO kid Parker McNeil could wind up being the starter. From what I've seen, he's a pure leader. His pass ability and 6'4" size helps too.

3. ULL dominates.

4. Texas state begins a slow but impressive move up.

5. USA begins to see the fruits of the dollars.

6. Ark state falls flat.

7. Ga state beats expectations.

8. CCU continues to struggle.

9. Troy continues to struggle.

10. ULM struggles.

This may be the year the bottom begins to knock on the door. It's coming!

Some wish list you have here. Top 5 are insane and not in the realm of possibilities lol.

Just having a little fun. The prognostication is based on:

App get's to stay on top they've earned it.

GS get's number two with a 4 year starting QB and solid returning core.

ULL could win it outright but the two in the east can be tough when there good.

Texas state's rarely out of a game. They should be inching forward now solidly with nice coaching and some nice adds to the roster.

USA is going to be jazzed. Again rarely blown out by any in the league.

Troy could see Tyson Summers take two. Hope not but last year...

Funny you say that...Jeremy Rowell, one of the only good coaches that Tyson Summers brought in, came from Propst staff while he was at Colquitt County HS. I believe he’s still at GS.

He was Troy's DC during our title run. Pretty good DC. He was also during some of Larry Blakeney's final years. The defense was as bad as it is now, but who knows if had more to do with the head coach having Bobby Bowden Syndrome. He's universally despised on the Troy board.

1. I'm going to say Texas State. I think they've figured out their QB situation and everyone is a year older. I think they've put together a good coaching staff and, if their offensive line (which was the worst in the SBC) improves, so will they.

2. Inside linebacker. Ferrod Gardner gets his senior year back and that helps. But Jacques Boudreaux is gone and the Cajuns didn't have great depth there. They've moved Kris Moncrief to the inside and that's a big deal, but they need more numbers.

3. South Alabama. No one expected them to have back to back three win seasons. They've figured out their QB situation and it's time for them to take a step forward. I honestly think that's the only answer to this question.

4. Most think it's Louisiana and I'm not going to argue that. But the regular season game is in Boone. What makes me hopeful was Billy Napier's statement to me that he thinks the Cajuns will be a LOT better in 2020.

5. I feel better about the Cajuns' quarterback situation than any other team in the league. Levi Lewis set school records for yardage and touchdowns last year and he doesn't turn the football over.

His offense was too good for him to be a Tyson Summers. That defense is Tyson Summers-level stuff though.

Troy's defense was far worse than the offensive equivalent that Summers fielded.

RE: Let's try to get some football talk going
1. What team are people sleeping on that they should look out for (I don't care if you pick your team)? I would say Coastal Carolina. They beat Kansas, lost to EMU by 7 in week one, and lost three more games by a combined 7 points. They weren't far off.

2. Which position is the biggest concern for your team this season? For App, I'd have to say running back. Depth appears to be an issue at a position that will be utilized heavily under Clark. Many people will be concerned about the linebacker positions but the guys stepping in, outside of who fills in for Davis-Gaither, should be just as capable.

3. Which coach has the warmest seat now? I think Chadwell and Lindsey both have warm seats. Both could catch fire if they start off slow

4. Who will end App's win streak (currently 19) against non-GS Sun Belt teams? App plays Louisiana, Georgia Southern, and Arkansas State in 3 weeks. They have the best shot

5. Talk about your QB situation if there's not an obvious returning starter:

There is an obvious starter, Zac Thomas. It will be interesting to see who gets additional live reps if games get out of hand because Huesman is a Redshirt Senior and after that you'll have Redshirt Freshman David Baldwin-Griffin and perhaps Navy Schuler.

RE: Let's try to get some football talk going
My preseason rankings:

1. App State - Clark can coast for at least a year IMO before you find out what he's really made of as a HC (that's what happens when a previous coach builds a monster team made up of freshmen and sophomores). They really don't lose many people on either side of the ball, but the guys they do lose are biggies. I think they could actually be better on offense if that Cameron Peoples (sp?) guy comes back strong at RB after his injury. They won't have a pair of linebackers as good as Fehr and AD-G and lose a good safety but have too much experience coming back to drop off too much. All in all I expect them to slide back a little, but still have a double-digit win team that could get into the AP poll 3 straight years.

2. Ragin' Cajuns - They should be fine at RB without Calais. I could see the passing game dropping off without their leading receiver and the two drafted OL on Lewis' blind side. Still good on both sides of the ball and should be the favorite in the west.

3. Arkansas State - If you're a StAte fan you can't really complain about winning 8 games with everything that went on last season. With Layne Hatcher and Marcell Murray and their OL coming back I think they'll reload at receiver and put a really good offensive unit together.

4. Georgia Southern - The two biggest weaknesses on the team should be improved - OL and safety (OL will be vastly better IMO). Hopefully getting our OC from 2014 and 2015 back will help. Skipping Ark State and playing Troy and App at home gives an advantage schedule-wise.

5. Coastal Carolina - My surprise pick for the east. This team had 393 yards of offense a game last season and I only expect them to be better with what they have coming back. As long as they don't drop off on defense too much they will be bowl-eligible for the first time. There's also the advantage of having GS, App, and Ark State at home.

6. Troy - They have the talent to be a top Sun Belt team, but Chip Linsdey (especially his defensive coaches) seem suspect to me. I get their secondary was pretty young and they'll be better this year, but they've got a long way to go to be good enough to compete for the east on defense. Plus, they have Ark State, GS, App, and the rivalry game against South on the road.

7. Georgia State - I think this will be the best even-numbered year team Georgia State has had in football so far, but that's not saying much. I think they're gonna drop off offensively some because of QB and RB but I also think Nate Fuqua will show he can earn his keep.

8. South Alabama - Their talent on the offensive side of the ball isn't as good as it should be, especially up front. Steve Campbell should probably bite the bullet and play younger guys. Their defense I think will still be good enough to keep them in some games.

9. UL Monroe - I think MattViator is the right guy for ULM, but with no Caleb Evans and losses on both lines and a brutal schedule I think it's going to be a rough rebuilding year for the Warhawks.

10. Texas State - The better half of this team (defense) is in rebuilding mode and the offense continues to be bad. This team is the favorite to finish last place IMO and Spavital's seat will get warm, and Larry Teis' rear end gets burned.
