Those are still kind of hockey-stick-looking projections to me. They may happen, but they may not.

Quote:WASHINGTON — Five weeks ago, when there were 60 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States, President Donald Trump expressed little alarm. “This is a flu,” he said. “This is like a flu.” He was still likening it to an ordinary flu as late as Friday.
By Tuesday, however, with more than 187,000 recorded cases in the United States and more Americans having been killed by the virus than by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the president’s assessment had rather drastically changed. “It’s not the flu,” he said. “It’s vicious.”

I have lost my first friend to Covid-19. She was 56 years old.
We grew up together. Attended church together and graduated from high school together.
To me Covid-19 has a face now. RIP Sharon

One of my high school friends (well best friend back then) and his wife have it. They are both strong enough now to be home but he posted a diary on Facebook and it is sobering. To put it in perspective, he's 51 and was a cross country high school coach for years so he's in pretty good shape. He posted 2 days before it hit him, a picture of himself in a mask drawn like almost a clown. Not making fun of the situation, but just being silly in isolation. His post today, even though he will recover, makes me nervous for us with compromised immune systems but are "essential".

RE: COVID19 VIRUS: Cited News Only, Prayer Requests for Patients, No Commentary
Found out Friday that a friend I graduated from HS with committed suicide the day/night before. She had been dealing with depressing and was a caregiver to a family member - while I can't say for sure that everything going on right now was the catalyst, I know for people who were already struggling this certainly isn't making it any easier.
Depression is real, folks - check on your people.

Good friend from HS (We didn't really stay in touch, other than group FB and the like) went from being Mom to a couple teens about 4 days ago to being on a ventilator in the ICU for what they anticipate to be weeks. I'm hoping for weeks then she's out, it's razor thin right now as to which way it goes.
Yea, a lot of you snots don't believe in prayer or the positive power of prayer. After witnessing the travails of my Mother in Law for 26 years when she was given 3-6 months, I do. And I'm a confirmed C & E're.
Good luck Janice, keep fighting as hard as you are!

Prayers for any and all impacted by this. So far I know of only two people who have contracted it and one is fine after having suffered only mild effects from it, the other is my nephew in Nashville who spent 4 days at Vanderbilt hospital being treated for viral pneumonia in both lungs and testing positive for COVID-19. They treated him for the pneumonia and said his case of COVID wasn't severe enough to treat. I have no idea how they made that determination but he's home now and on the mend with the worst behind him we hope.

The building in Norman, Oklahoma that me and my mother worked at, which is under new owners, have 7 elderly dead with 55 tested positive while 7 staffers also tested as well. 17 deaths in Cleveland County with 2 more deaths from an assisted nursing center called Brookhaven. Both nursing homes are west of I35. As I read the obits from the Norman Transcripts, I recognized some faces there in town. Norman could used some prayers.

PA is re-opening some things potentially regionally May 8th. Basically online car sales and construction. But areas like Philly and Pittsburgh will more than likely be off limits.

She lost her battle April 17th. Getting FB "alerts" in email from a couple friends and clicking on a few she has gotten likely a thousand condolences, she was that type of person, but like I said we hadn't kept up. One of the early-days Meadowview Swim Team crew. RIP

Just found out my niece's husband in Connecticut has tested positive. He's been sick for about a week and a half with a low grade fever and cough. He's young and healthy and will be fine, but their family is freaking out as you might expect because my niece is pregnant with their first child. They think they got it from the ultrasound technician.

We've got 21 or 22 hospitalized at East Alabama Medical Center. 5 have died and nobody has recovered yet. I'm going to reserve judgment although I've lost ~$150,000 in stock values so far.
I certainly respect your judgement.
although I have an "essential" role in a properly and governmentally declared "essential" industry, my 401K is a smoking wreck.
I go to work every day in a city block sized building that formerly housed 400 people. it is slowly becoming more populated, and we have yet to have a COVID positive employee.
I think that if corporate America is just smart about re-igniting the economy, we will get better results than if we all hide in terror for the next 18 months.

I think this could/should be the death knell for the worship of "big data".
BD is great for targeting a market audience. It's great for projecting how many jars of peanut butter we need for the next 6 months.
it remains fatally flawed for important sh*t like presidential elections, and pandemics.

Well we know have 389 cases in Lee County (about twice the average for the population compared to Columbus Georgia) and ~30 dead and the case load is still going up. I blame it on the young refusing to follow guideline and taking it home to their elderly parents and to foreign nationals who traveled from both China and Europe prior to the announcement of the outbreak.
I've recently recovered a bit from my 403b but strongly suspect this Fall when 3rd Qtr numbers are released we'll see another big sell off.
Alabama now has over 7000 cases and over 300 fatalities.
Those who predicted it would be about 1.5% of the population were pretty much on target. That said the virus is recurring in patients who have recovered tested negative and gone home. I think therein will lie the different dynamic for this over the flu.
That said the economic ruin it hath wrought is going to be with us a lot longer than the virus. At least Sankey is planning on having a football season.

My grandma was just diagnosed positive. Thankfully asymptomatic thus far, she's in good physical shape for a 95-year old so I'm praying it stays that way. Lives in a retirement community, under lockdown for basically over 3 months now but now kept to her room. She has memory issues so our family has to hire basically a babysitter to make sure she doesn't go out of her room to infect more of the elderly.
