I do as well. He seemed to be right on the cusp of really figuring things out his last year here.

by being on the cusp, are you trying to say that he was figuring out how to make a layup, without getting blocked by the rim?

He was really starting to develop some solid offensive post moves to go along with his strong rim protection and good post-D. Brooks was very versatile for being such a big guy--recall that he shut down Conor Frankamp on the perimeter to win us the AAC championship on the road at Wichita St.

His big problem was staying on the court. The Iowa tournament game sorta condensed his entire career into 30 minutes. He started out very well, and was controlling the interior. We were up by 10 for most of the first half. Once the foul trouble hit, however, the team lost control of the inside to Luka Garza and it opened up Iowa's offense.

That's life. I hope he does well at Miami. Lord knows I'd love to spend two years on South Beach...

People really exaggerate Brooks' offensive liability, particularly as a junior. He had the second highest true shooting percentage on the team and was very efficient around the rim. He wasn't a great offensive player but he played within himself and was efficient when he took his shots.

I agree his biggest issue was an inability to stay on the floor. He was UC's second best player when he was on the floor, but I'd say he was probably the 4th or 5th best overall player in 2019 because he just couldn't stay out there against good teams. If he fouls less, he could very well have a great senior season. No ill will from me when a guy leaves after a coaching change. I hope it works out.

A really good assessment of Brooks. That Iowa game turned when he had to leave the floor. The fact that UC didn't have a suitable backup is another thread altogether, but I know some questioned his endurance at times. And a tired player is likely prone to foul more by being out of position and reaching or grabbing.

I wish Brooks well; I remember him being particularly effective in the home game with UCLA against a very tall front line.

I guess you guys would be great in a divorce. Not me. I view a player leaving as I want nothing to do with you. To which I said go away crash and burn.

I almost feel that way if the player makes a lateral move.

However, if the players moves down a level, I have nothing but best wishes for him.

Good point, so I will wish Brooks well since The U is a step down.

I have a similar mindset as this but it does depend on intention at some point. Lateral moves usually raise more questions. Family crisis (closer to home) would be an obvious caveat here. Not fitting in a new system would be digestible. Protesting minutes or coach loyalty are less desirable reasons...they can go D2

RE: 20-21 bearcats
here's a fun scenario

mika, keith, rap, dou, vogt. just because he can

i also think tari and keith might like playing together. those will be some fastbreaks

a bright side with da vid pertaining to these cats is that if the season is canceled, jules is gonna get two years regardless

i don't think lahkin redshirts. we're gonna need some experience on the frontline next year

While I think Dou could guard on the perimeter, I see that line-up getting eaten up by a press defense. Maybe if Keith makes a huge leap with his ball handling it could work in small spurts to try to create some mismatches. Would be kind of fun to watch Dou and Rap hanging out on the perimeter just jacking 3's while clearing the paint for Vogt. Replace either Rap or Vogt with Eason and I think you may have a more viable lineup. Even better, run Mika and either Saunders or DeJulius (if eligible) in the back court with Eason, Dou, and Rap or Vogt. From what I've heard, Eason has superior ball handling ability for a 4. I think we'll see him leading fast breaks like Gary Clark used to. I'm trying not to set my expectations too high, but as I've said before, I think Eason will have a similar impact to Gary. He might even be a little more naturally talented, although it remains to be seen if he has anywhere near the work ethic Gary has.

I miss Chatter’s annual depth chart posts for the next 3 years.

Is there any word or timeframe of when the NCAA will make a decision on David Dejulius’ NCAA waiver?

From what I understand it could be hours from now, it could be a week before the season starts (that's when we found out Chris Vogt was eligible to play last year) or it could be any time inbetween. There is no rhyme or reason with the NCAA.

A big PLUS for our conference. UC needs a strong Memphis, Houston and others to be a credible multi-bid league each year. Let's hope this helps Brannen as he recruits players who want to play against other four and five star kids.

There is a stench in Memphis and it is not from bad BBQ.

For those unfamiliar, Cisse -- who was born in West Africa but moved to New York in 2015 -- relocated to Memphis before his junior year of high school just like Wiseman did, which has led some to predict this recruitment could cause problems for Memphis just like Wiseman's did. And to that, I guess I'd say, who knows? The move is obviously unusual. But, either way, the official story is that Cisse relocated to improve his academics, which is why he enrolled at one of the best private schools in Tennessee. He's been living with his legal guardian, William Anderson, a man who has had a relationship with Cisse since Cisse was in 8th grade. Anderson also happens to be the basketball coach at LeMoyne-Owen College, a Division II school that plays an exhibition against the Tigers annually inside FedExForum.

So will the NCAA ask questions?

Actually a lot of AAC programs have landed some quality transfers and recruits these last couple of months. UCF in particular is another program who added some really good talent. Going to be really hard to predict just how good the AAC will be next season with so many players retaining eligibility but still in the draft process and new players with pending waiver decisions.

Yeah, SMU and USF in particular look to be strong. UCF and ECU should be improved as well. Outside of maybe Tulane who is experiencing a 2nd-straight season of major roster turnover, I don't see any 200+ NET/Kenpom type of teams.
