RE: New MBB Commit
alderson upgrade at the backup swingman role. better ballhandler. attacks the rim harder. a little bigger. not a high efficiency scorer. can make threes or miss them. at juco took a lot of shots. pretty good on the boards. can play guard at 6-6. or help a bit inside in a small ball lineup. not a transformational recruit. more of an "I wanna win now" recruit by coach K. him thinking, "damn, if i had 6-6 guy who could run pick and role and get us 6 or 8 points and 4 boards off the bench every night and plays like he wants to beat you this past season, we would have won more games". coach wants to get more nimble in the offensive playmaking. get acunzo on the court as a point forward. work in the freshman rollins as a scorer and playmaker. add in milner who started as a D1 freshman before a juco year. and the lineup 5-8 looks a lot more dynamic and versatile.
1st and 2nd unit 2019-20 (m jackson, littleson, saunders, w jackson, knapke - alderson, smith, maranka, moore, rs etherington)
in 2020-21 (m jackson, littleson, saunders, edu, maranka - rollins, millner, acunzo, moss, rs hill - w 2 or 3 new players TBD or i wouldn't be shocked if willie jackson returns on a waiver-since he already had a decent case for an extra year of eilgibility prior to losing his senior postseason to the pandemic quarantine-ncaa limited his eligibility clock to 4 years but only allowed him to play 3 seasons despite being a model student-athlete. plus due to injury in 19 and cancellation in 20 he missed the postseason 2 of the 3 years he was eligible to play).
face it. nothing personal against dylan, but he got chance after chance to contribute as a junior and rarely got it done. a passive kinda tentative player and personality on the court, as a senior i didn't see him having a leadership role. either a talented young guy was gonna eat up his minutes and he was gonna cheer hard from the bench and get a diploma. or he was going to transfer. remember, alderson was a uw-milwaukee signee who asked out after a surprise coaching change and ended up at UT. he can play D1 basketball, but he never had a productive year for us. if he took the sit 1 play 1 route and fine tuned his game and built up his confidence he could find a role on a mid major team, or he could go down a level and have a big role on a smaller stage.
