RE: Coaching carousel
The Coaching Carousel will grind to a slow crawl if not even slower.
I doubt many schools will fire a coach during this climate. And this is likely to last for a bit and by then they will be more than a little stuck until next season.[/u]

Who the HELL does Grand Canyon think it is?
He was 136-89 in 7 seasons. From the press release:
Quote:"GCU has become a premier mid-major basketball destination with its resources, facilities, and student and community support," GCU strategic advisor Jerry Colangelo said in a university release. "We look forward to the future of the program under the direction of the new head coach."
Odd that Colangelo and not the AD made that statement.

Bryce Drew seems like a very good hire.

I enjoyed him as a commentator.

So did I. Obviously he was knowledgeable, and he a nice way of explaining what he was watching.

I don’t know about “kill it” - but I agree it was a good hire.

RE: Coaching carousel
Breakdown of the 17 hires this year:
7 high major AC (Georgia, Texas Tech, Texas, Marquette, K-State, NC State, Minnesota)
5 internal promotions
3 unemployed former high major coaches (Pitino, Drew, Kennedy)
2 mid major HC (Ga Southern, No Colorado)
So, yeah. It wouldn't have been far-fetched for any of our assistants to take one of these jobs.
I wonder if any national writer wrote columns about how the AC's at the 7 high majors above were actively trying to land a HC gig - the way one loser did about Miller.

Updated for the hiring at Samford of a HS coach. Only 2 jobs remain open, and they are low level.

RE: Coaching carousel
Updated with one of the bigger job moves of the season.
Coronavirus couldn't save Danny Manning. He's out at Wake Forest.
Looks like they are looking for a mid-major HC as a replacement, so our staff should be safe. Steve Forbes might be a leading candidate.

He would be a good choice in my opinion.

Steve Forbes is a good get for Wake. I'm surprised no one hired him away from ETSU already.

Seems like a rough job. Why doesn't Wake Forrest compete well with Duke and UNC? Athletic fund disparity? Tradition alone? Winning that state is tough (don't forget NC State w/Kevin Keatts), let alone the ACC. Good luck to GP's buddy.

It will be interesting to see if he can succeed at a higher level. He has done a great job of taking lower level recruits and making it work at the mid major level. It will be a different world for him for sure.

RE: Coaching carousel
Updated for Forbes hiring at Wake.
And the domino effect of the opening at ETSU.
ETSU might promote internally in the current environment. But if they go outside, this is the kind of job that could interest Madlock or Miller.
