I was so excited for that dude since he has some success at Colorado, he was bringing in Xavier Silas, and he recruited Chauncey Billups. Boy was I wrong.

In person, for me it is November 9, 2002, when NIU beat on unbeaten and No. 20 ranked Bowling Green 26-17. An enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Watching on TV, it is the 2018 MAC Championship game. I still have it saved on my TV so that I can replay Sutton Smith's last sack in that game. The way he came flying out of nowhere to bring down Tyree Jackson. That was a thing of beauty.

Yes! Pure euphoria that game.

SS split two blockers who couldn't touch him.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last five minutes in the Alabama game, I was like a little kid again. A 48 year old man laying on the floor with my ear 4 feet from my daughter's Barbie AMFM radio. (The only radio in the house.) I kept praying to myself in the closing minutes that NIU would not screw this up. God heard me.

Favorite game to watch as a football fan was the Eastern Illinois NIU game. Jimmy Garoppolo and Jordon Lynch in the same game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. They both lived up to the hype.

Favorite basketball game was ISU in the old Field House in 1972. Doug Collins was coming off the Olympic loss and NIU was ready. The place was rocking packed. I was sitting on the main floor at half court. When I stretched out, my feet touched the out of bounds line. Fans were sitting 7 to 10 rows deep on the floor surrounding the court in front of the bleachers. The SRO was 15 deep in the corners. Collins played like an All American and later was drafted number 1 in the 1973 NBA. NIU lost by a couple.

Loudest crowd noise in my sports history was "The Dunk". Body parts were vibrating from the sound waves.

Seeing the Ward INT to seal the deal against Iowa was fantastic.

I remember that. I had become a DePaul fan like most Chicagoans at that time. But, I was thrilled that my alma mater was taking it to them. I swear the tv almost exploded from the monstrous sound coming from it when the dunk happened.

RE: Favorite Huskie Moments???
No work. No sports. No late night talk shows. No fun.

Let's try and think of happier days. Not exactly a moment, but this is my favorite. But we may have what the media calls one of the worst football stadiums in FBS. But I love going to Huskie stadium.

Whether that be on the East Side, where we were when we were kids. Getting way too intoxicated tailgating, but just enough to get onto the east grandstands. The music was roaring, beers were being chugged. Or the West Side, where I go now that I'm older and drive to the stadium instead of walking up. It's always a great day when you got all your old roommates and their families getting together chatting and eating good food. Then you go in, walking up the maze of stares. Coming out one of the portals seeing that big green field.

We're in a weird place right now. I'm confident things will be back to normal in the near future. But we got to think about the little things we love, that perhaps we took for granted.

Go Huskies. Forward, Together, Forward.

I do also enjoy going to the out of date lack of amenities Huskie Stadium. I have been to High School marching Band competitions to watch at U of I and that stadium is nothing special either.

Let's face it--Huskie Stadium is kind of a dump. But I've always thought of it as "our dump," so I love going there. Probably always will, even if none of the big plans for it become reality. I view DeKalb the same way--town's a dump, but I love coming back for games. Would love nothing better though for the stadium to be rocking like it used to and for DeKalb to have much more to offer.

Hell yeah. That's what I'm talking about.

Hulkamania brother!

That same sentiment is how I felt about my entire NIU experience. It wasn't the best, but we made the most out of it. In the process and a hell of a time.

Keg stand anyone?

Yeah, it was all good. Wife and I even got married while I was in grad school and enjoyed living in DeKalb. NIU also set us up for successful careers. It's far from a perfect place, but no regrets or complaints here. Just want to see NIU and DeKalb get well! 04-cheers

Some crazy parties had there. What were some of the themes of your era? We got our kegs at Lundeen's. Nothing but the finest in Keystone Light and Busch Light kegs. $50 deposits, we typically got 3.

-Nickelodeon Theme
-Japanese Pop Party
-Gangster
-Halloween
-USA
-Around the World

RE: Favorite Huskie Moments???
I know this was in another thread but my favorite Huskie moment was the 1985 Men's BB game of NIU v Miami. Kenny Battle v Ron Harper. The Fieldhouse was loud!
If memory serves me right(alot of malted hops and bong resin might have clouded that) on the very last play of OT with NIU up by a point, Harper was driving down the the lane for an easy layup and win when Battle came out if nowhere and blocked that shot to preserve the win. Everybody was stunned at first but then broke out in cheers. It almost reminded me of the Bulls/Kicks playoff game where Grant and Pippen blocked 4 shots in the last 5 seconds and you were looking at the TV screen in disbelief.
This made it my favorite Huskie moment over many great Huskie moments because I was there.COGS

The fake punt by Kill at about the 2:58 mark of this video is an all-time "big balls" move. What a great victory. Glad Anderson got the first.

I appreciate this thread and got goosebumps on hearing all the great Huskie moments....

My favorite moment was when the Huskies took the field at the Orange Bowl. The place was hopping with Huskie faithful and my school pride was through the roof. It felt like a Super Bowl.

Back in early 80s, NIU had a very good men's gymnastics team. They had a meet against the Russian national youth team. Place was packed. NIU did well but their gymnasts were world class. Fun night
