MyBB Will Kansas be regarded as the national champ?
Not officially NCAA champs, but champs like football teams have been in the past?

They are #1 in what will be the final polls.

They will claim it. Nobody else will recognize it.

Are the Montreal Expos regarded as 1994 Champs? No.

Some Kansas fans will claim it, no doubt. At least one already posted a photoshopped photo of Allen Fieldhouse with a 2020 banner next to the real banners.

I'm waiting for Danny White and UCF to declare themselves the 2020 NCAA Men's Basketball (and women's too) National Champions by default. Print the shirts, baby!

I bet Kansas tries to hang a banner.

Maybe with an asterisk! And a footnote.

Or labeled instead with something like "Ranked #1 2019-2020".

Or maybe in a week or so the NCAA invites certain fully-tested teams to a Final Four in an isolated place.

They could be unofficially. Gonzaga could claim a championship based off being the highest ranked to actually win a tournament in the postseason. If anything there's going to be no champion.

Gonzaga's also #1 in NET.

Kansas would be stupid to try to claim anything more than a #1 season.

Anybody who's driven across Kansas on I-70 knows that Kansas isn't #1 in anything except Christian radio stations.

And those who know their Colorado history are aware that eastern CO was part of Kansas, so is extremely similar.

{As well as was part of Texas.}

I still don’t get why we can’t just host the games in small, empty faculties so that fans could at least watch on television.

I think if Kansas administration feels the need to claim a national championship this year it really undermines them as a blueblood. My expectation is a blueblood would sneer at anything short of winning it in the tournament. I can't imagine Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK claiming a poll ranking.

Few said that’s what most, if not all, the players wanted to do. Apparently putting it off until May wasn’t logistically feasible.

Well, this is a novel situation. For example, the ACC has always had as a point of pride the policy that their tournament champion is the "ACC Champion", not the regular season champ. But the other day, after canceling the tournament, the ACC held a ceremony and crowned FSU, the best record during the regular season, as the official ACC champion.

I guess we shall see.

BTW, I do not favor regarding Kansas as the national champs. I'm just curious if they will be so regarded.

I tried to make a careful distinction. The Kansas administration. If fans claim it so be it. I just don't think the school claiming to be national champs fits with their self-image nor with the perception people have of blue bloods.

Well, Kansas has actually won three official NCAA championships, but they have banners hanging for 5, as they claim the 1922 and 1923 championships awarded by "Helms", even though these were retrospectively awarded more than 20 years later and are just the opinion of the Helms Foundation.

So if a school can claim that kind of nonsense, they might claim anything, LOL.
