I just figured out one winner: North Carolina! Their streak of making the NCAA Tournament continues:)

The ACC in general. In what was going to be a bad year for bids, don't they get this little gift of it not looking terrible in the tournament. UVA remains defending champs.

I suspect the ACC would look just fine after the first week with 3-4 in the Sweet 16.

Greensboro would have hosted the NCAA Tournament in 2017 but HB2 happened and they lost it. Now this happened. It's one thing to lose the tournament. Now they've lost it twice. The last time they actually hosted was 2012.

These are all great points. Crazy that Illinois will now go 8 years between NCAA Tournaments.

What if they still name the Tournament teams.

No point in doing so without the end of the conference tournaments. Some teams could have played their way in or out.

Except the WCC is a three team conference. How many from the A10 have danced the last ten years?

WCC got lucky to get BYU. A10 has lost all their good teams.

Creighton belongs in that list. They were really good and had a legit final 4 chance.

Is there really anything stopping the top teams and automatic bids from meeting in a gym in April/May and play a tournament over the course of a few weeks outside of the NCAA?

Gonzaga steamrolls that horrible conference every season and folds in the tournament. UNLV, they are not.

Not shedding a tear over Greensboro, a boring crappy city that gets way too many chances to host Duke in the NCAA tourney.

I would say no.

With UConn returning to the Big East, how many programs are out there that could hypothetically move the needle? Gonzaga is one. Any others?

If/when the BE expands again, it will do so at a time when the round robin is no longer valued or as valuable, and/or there is value in expanding to create more content for a TV deal, as well as creating more games for the BET in MSG.

What criteria would the league look for, if no elite programs are available (considering what the landscape is at the moment)? It needs to be a basketball-first institution, it needs to have a NYC presence, it needs to have strong fan support and an ability to travel well. Dayton, whether it is a top-5 team or a top-50 team, remarkably, always provides that.

The knock against Dayton is its current proximity to Cincinnati (Xavier). However, neither really impacts the ability for the other to be competitive or its ability to have fans at games. If Dayton were in Detroit, they would already be in the BE.

As previously stated, look for both UD and SLU as expansion targets in 2024, a year before the current BE TV deal with Fox expires. However, if the rumors about an extension being announced when UConn joins in July are true, then that timeline probably gets extended to '26-'27 timeframe. 14 is an ideal league number; UMass could also be paired with UConn to round everything out.

Poor Rutgers...so many decades of dispair, a credible season and now this.

The silver lining for someone like Hofstra is that they at least got the AQ. They didn't play in the tournament, but they had a ticket. It's someone like Rutgers that one can really feel for.

And while the rule of thumb has typically been that if you're a non-major and you win a tournament game, you can kiss your coach goodbye, I suspect programs like Dayton, SDSU, and Rutgers better pay up to keep their guys around. They did enough with those teams for a lot of schools to notice.

Well, the committee does love to give them all favorable geographic placement. Like, we know Duke was good for Greensboro.

Yeah, opted to stay with the lesser money at Loyola instead of St. John's. Granted, it's St. John's.

I'm happy that it's not an automatic thing. Some folks realize that the respect and job security pieces mean something. And to be a lord of the earth on campus is pretty sweet, too.
