I realized these closures had to happen when Italy did not take preventative measures and got slammed. Meanwhile, I think it was South Korea that did and they have kept the numbers down.
Either it is contained or the numbers will explode in the next week. We'll find out soon enough. Community spread seems to be limited to 3 clusters at this point (Boston, NY, Seattle). Other cases have all been imports.

You want to know why the numbers are so low, look at how many tests the CDC have actually been reviewed. It was only like 7k yesterday.
But even with the test, the number of positive results are seemingly low. Just for one single example, the 58 people around the Jazz that have been closely together all year and only 2 positives. I realize in 3-4 days they may retest and have some positives come back.
But, the number of positive tests that have come back is really low. (surprising to me)

The lack of apparent community spread outside of the 3 clusters to this point is encouraging. Especially in Florida, Texas, and California. Maybe the warm weather is helping. Either that or these isolated clusters are a result of biological attacks. Interesting that there are relatively few cases in Canada, the US, and Brazil, yet Tredeau, Trump, and Bolsonaro have all been in exposed to the virus. But it doesn't seem like anyone in the Chinese leadership is having problems.

Yep. We did a BCP test at the office Wednesday. Everyone had mandatory work from home. I was in the office to take the names of anyone that tried to sneak in and get their laptop. Nobody came in. Thursday is a big work from home day for us and we made everyone come in to announce that we will be doing company-wide work from home through the 22nd and it will be reevaluated on a week by week basis from there. As we are a New York-based company I fully expect that to be extended at least another week if not longer.

Interesting. We're VB based but have offices in Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, Richmond, Roanoke, Vienna, and Macon with a half doze or so scattered around the US that work from home.
I discussed with our President and CINO doing a office by office stress test but we've been doing flexible working for a while now and about 80% of the firm can work remote already in some capacity (virtual desktop, published apps, remote desktop, or laptop) so there isn't much to test. The biggest issue will be collaboration and productivity.
But, I hope there is some real data to come out of this that can be used to improve the US infrastructure and it's response to mass wide-spread shut downs. It'll really highlight areas of improvement.

RE: OT- Corona Virus- Where do we go from here?
I wholly believe it'll get worse before it gets better, but this isn't The Walking Dead. Still, it's concerning for the older folks among us...i saw a chart showing a 15% mortality rate for those infected aged 75+, 8% for 65-75, etc with diminishing rates for younger populations. And we are still 10 -14 days out from Italy's current situation per another chart overlaying the linear progression in each country from their own Day Zero...every country aligned, save So. Korea.
*going from memory, allow for errors in figures

Our stress test was Wednesday and there was drama at the end but nothing that couldn't be ironed out. My job might be the one in the company most conducive to telework; even when on-site the vast majority of my communications are done through email. In fact, I was planning with my boss's approval to transition to full-time teleworking in the coming weeks, so this just speeds up the process.
What'll be interesting is to gauge the effect of a long-term period of telework on city planning. The trend in recent years has been toward a more permissive attitude towards telework, and if most white-collar workers are doing it for weeks, possibly months, in a spell, it might amplify the effect. Which is turn what might have been a long-term thought exercise for city planners into a shorter-term real-world task: What do you do with downtown office space and industrial parks when more and more people are teleworking? And how does that affect housing considerations? Are one-bedroom and studios going to be less desirable even for single losers like me because we'll still want a dedicated space to clock in?
Or the whole thing blows over in a few weeks and everything returns to normal. But I tend to doubt it.

Have a decent source that says the President is going to suspend domestic air and rail/bus travel and declare a National State of Emergency.

I work for the federal gov, and while we haven't been told anything official yet, I firmly believe that today will be my last day working in DC for a while.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m going into withdrawals with the absence of games in March. This may be too much to bear.

Went out for dinner and Margaritas tonight. OBX in the morning for the rest of the weekend. This virus can go to hell.

What do you think the NCAA will do when this is all over?
Will the USA Today and AP Coaches Poll confer that #1 Gonzaga is the 2019/2020 National Champion? (like NCAA Football in the old days)
Will they do a Vegas8-style weekend tourney with the top teams?
Your thoughts.

I'm so glad I don't own a sports bar. What will they do? Why are the local news networks still having a sports show? It looks like Japan is trying to go ahead with the Summer Olympics.

Glad to hear you are alive and well, Petey. I would think if they would award it to anyone it would be Kansas. I personally hope they just do an abbreviated (if not full) tournament in April/May.

This may be a possibility...I saw a report that the NCAA was considering a 16-team tournament before cancelling the works.
