36 people.

I stand by what I said.

It just started.

23 of those killed were in the same nursing home in Washington.

It's about to end.

But if you want to freak out like the NBA, NCAA, and numerous colleges, go ahead.

Wait one month and look like an idiot just like them.

What evidence do you have that this is about to end? I’m genuinely curious

Common sense.

umm ok

RE: Lester....BOH?
The trolling is cute and I guess helps some pass the time

It is not the 36 deaths or even the 1,500 or so cases

It is China and Italy

This disease has all the earmarks of the type that has the potential to really spread if some containment is not done.

AIDS was relatively ignored for years. And during those years there were relatively few deaths, especially compared to cancer and heart disease

By the mid 1980s 15,000 were dying of it a year in the US. Deaths peaked in the mid 1990s at around 50,000 per year I think, maybe a little more or less. But behavior modification and testing which developed AZT helped prevent it from getting much worse here. I believe over a million people are HIV positive today and over 1,000 still die in the US.

In some nations HIV is the killer we feared here when the nature of its contagion worried the hell out of everyone. Those nations have not modified behavior nor have access to the meds

We are taking a break from things early here with Corona because as mentioned, it is the type of killer that could get much worse, as we are seeing clearly around the world.

Cancer kills a lot, but because we research so much on it, we have mitigated those death numbers tremendously. Car wrecks kill a lot, but much less now with seat belts, better tires, better road grades, etc. Contagious diseases are a different kind of alarming and even a few cases cause a different kind of fear than other issues, and we deal heavily with those other issues. The type of word these pandemic agencies did over the years helped us avoid much worse with so many other issues. A little extra spread prevention while we see Italy experience the huge death toll rise is untimely but probably right

Will just be a weird month

We help this not spread like AIDs, that is a win. And in a few years if we have vaccines but a few thousand die a year, that will be success.

Obama lead the swine flu to 14,000 American deaths.

Trump nipped this in the bud. China ban, immediately.

Nah man
Most folks are realistic about the situation. I have a child who is at big risk if he gets the virus. I’ll do anything I can so that I don’t get it and infect him in return. Hope you are right this ends soon.

Anyways, I was expecting more info than common sense. Genuinely thought you might have friends or family in the medical field that have a different viewpoint

Ok sorry if you have a child at risk.

Didn't mean to downplay anything like that.

But it's common knowledge that the most at risk are the elderly with underlying medical issues.

Hope your kid is safe.

Then you are hearing far different than the multiple sources I have heard.

However, nice cya. You can't be wrong with that statement.

Always good to hedge your bets with the good ole "unless things change".

Hey Chrisd-
Good cover on the wait a month and it will all be over. With the actions taken over the last 2 days it probably will be over (or at least contained), because the spread was interrupted by taking these steps. But I don't think anyone would look as dumb as they would by sitting around with their thumb up their ass for a month and it is a real raging issue by then.

I'd prefer that they err on the conservative side when lives hang in the balance. But maybe that's just me....

Nobody is sitting around with their thumb up their ass.

Steps are being taken to end this (thanks TRUMP), and steps were being taken from the very beginning (China ban, thanks TRUMP), and now (Europe ban, thanks TRUMP).... which is why I think it will be over within the next month.

RE: Lester....BOH?
And if some of you think the number of cases have skyrocketed in the next few weeks, it's because the testing has skyrocketed.

Also the mortality rate will plummet as testing is increased.

The number of deaths is a constant/very low number, while testing is increased.

Amen. So many people making fools of themselves.

I'll take it a step further.... 80-90 year old Americans (who are hardest hit from Corona) have about 100 times more likely chance of being killed by a lightning strike than being killed by this "pandemic".

Whoa.. dont loop me into that statement, i didnt say THAT

Yeah, silly/bad take by chrisd11. This virus is pretty bad for elderly & those with lung issues.

The virus has killed 36 people.

36 people.

I stand by what I said.
51 people die from a lightning strike a year.

1/100th of 51 is a 1/2 of person. So you probably shouldn't stand by that statement unless you just like saying stupid ish.

It's a 30 day travel ban to countries in the Schengen Area.
The Schengen Area does not include the UK, Ireland, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania.
