No unions, no healthcare, no regulations preventing companies from totally exploiting workers, dirty air and water (regulations = bad), minimal tax cuts (the rich seem to get those), no social welfare or similar programs if you do get laid off - they apparently just want people to fend for themselves, companies can be maximally deceptive in order to maximize profits - that is their whole platform. And companies STILL remain overseas without having to pay appropriate taxes. I don't see what's in it for the working class.

I respect Trump for trying to bring these companies back here, the corporate tax rate was so outrageous before. I will give credit to Trump for being the first President for the American worker in AGES. The problem I have with Trump are his appointments. He appointed a man to lead the FBI, director Wray, that is doing his absolute best to block any reform of what has became a highly criminal institution in itself. The drain the swamp promise was a joke if you allow men like that to continue the corrosive culture of the FBI

Trump won't appoint anyone that he thinks won't be a yes man. If they turn out to be anything else, Trump gets rid of them. So it is not possible for him to drain the swamp because he is part of the swamp.

That just is false. He needs to appoint YES men in fact. Director Wray refuses to reform the corrupt FBI, AG Barr refuses to hold anyone accountable for the Russian investigatoin. Trump has no one faithful to him in his own administration because government is packed with career criminals

There are a limited number of people that have no dignity, which is required to work for Trump.

Nothing can compare with the moral bankruptcy of people in government who participated in the coup attempt. Look at the Obama administration, literally full of criminals who should be behind bars. Obama's legacy is turning government as a weapon against those who oppose him, that is so anti-American its not even funny. Not only are many in Obama administration not in jail for their crimes, they are still embedded in the government. Sickening

Did I mention that Trump is an axe murderer? The actual evidence for that is equal to all the crazy conspiracy theories about Obama and his administration.

There is no point in arguing with people who are part of a cult. If you so much as question dear leader you are a socialist communist nazi who hates America.

And screw facemasks!

The last time I had surgery I told the doctor he looks like a fool with the mask and gloves and made him operate with his bare hands. I'd rather die than have that goofy bastard work on me with those on.

Face masks really do nothing in my opinion. They really are meant to condition people to act a certain way, in this case to achieve a political end. In fact there is some thought that while wearing a mask may help others around you infinitesimally, it can have a negative impact for the person wearing the mask.

Your opinion is wrong, factually. Science has proven face masks help and the fact that Trump not wearing one has brainwashed you into believing they "really do nothing" is absolutely terrifying.

This country is in trouble. As far as I know you're not a kid either, so you should know better

Let's see.

ME: Wears a mask when going out in public knowing I'll be around people trying to do my part in stopping the spread of this virus. Masks that have been scientifically proven to have at some positive impact.

YOU: Believe masks are a conspiracy theory despite all credible scientific studies showing they are not.

One of us certainly does need to see a psychiatrist.

I dont think there is any evidence that wearing a mask helps the person wearing a mask.

But if someone else is wearing a mask does that help in any way protect you?

Not necessarily. I think what happens is that the air flow restriction causes you to inhale some of the carbon dioxide you just breathed out. This results in that person having to take deeper breaths to compensate for reingesting that recycled air, and thus infected people would be at higher rate of spreading

Welp, mic drop on science.

I'll stop my end of this conversation. Just can't compete with that level of intellect.

RE: Corona Virus
Side rant - so I go to Jewel and they have signs up about social distancing (and wearing masks). They have arrows on the floor directing you to only go one way in certain aisles, and they have spots marked out on the floor where to stand while waiting in the checkout line so you can socially distance.

Then I pay for my groceries and someone is standing there 2 feet from me bagging my groceries, and personally handing the bags to me (as if that's really necessary). What is wrong with this picture? Even if they aren't doing that, the people working there walk a lot closer to me than any customer typically does. They also stand around in such a way that it is impossible to get past them while staying more than 2-3 feet from them.

Were they wearing masks or did the cashier have a "plastic or glass spit screen(?)"? That is common down here in Fl at the better grocery stores. If you do not feel safe do not give them your business.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. And another question. Were you wearing a mask?

The cashier had a plastic screen, but it isn't that big, probably only somewhat effective. The workers were wearing masks, as was I (it's still required). But if just wearing masks is enough, there is no point in making a big deal about socially distancing.

Can't really go anywhere indoors and socially distance. I went into a gas station that was empty except for the cashier. I pay for a few things and as I start to leave, one person walks in and stops right next to me. I think every establishment is required to have at least one idiot in there.

It’s really just about risk reduction. The store should not have a bagger. That’s dumb. The cashier bags at Meijer. But the grocery store is just one of those risky places we are forced to visit. Social distancing IMO just spreads the length of time over which this infection occurs. It was never meant to eliminate the virus.

I think we are pretty screwed as the hotter countries are still seeing a steady rate of cases. So corona is not seasonal like influenza. Looks like herd immunity until a vaccine comes along. Sweden may have had the answer. While they have 2 to 3 times as many cases as their neighboring Norway and Finland, when the second wave comes they will be far better off.

They might be better off, but I've read that they're still nowhere near herd immunity level. Should be interesting to see what happens though.
