It's like dominoes are falling.
For organizations that aren't suspending operations, the issue will be the questions. If the Ivy League and the NBA and the NCAA and others are closing their doors then why aren't YOU closing your doors?
Some groups will cave to that pressure of perception if for no other reason.

Sitting around indoors isn't a solution either. The economy grinding to a halt is only going to exacerbate the crisis. The truth is there is little that can be done to contain viruses, the world is too interconnected the prevent the spread.

What they are trying to do is "flatten the curve" so as to not overwhelm medical staff and facilities.

That's been my take from the medical people I know. They're mostly concerned about the inability to handle large numbers of ICU patients for lengthy periods of time.
When the weather warms up then it should dissipate.

OK, but isn't that mostly about the population not understanding the hospital can only test for the virus. There is no treatment/cure other than staying at home and riding it out and disinfecting everything afterward.

RE: NBA Suspends Season after player tests positive for Corona Virus
I'm fine with the NBA cancelling their season, although they say it's currently suspended, but not because they need to due to the coconabug; moreso because the NBA game has become for the past decade-plus boring, the players unrealtable and unsympathetic, and the league agenda-based and unresponsive to the entertainment leanings of the majority of Americans. It would be a good time for them to reassess their game rules and gameplay and how they come across to average, regular fans.
Some ideas:
1. change the shot clock to 30 seconds to allow for more strategic playmaking and teamwork,
2. widen the court a foot or two to account for bigger players and a more crowded lane, and at the same time, widen the lane,
3. make change dunks to be only worth one point instead of two, as there is less and less skill necessary to dunk the ball for the pro players of today and the dunk would be best reffective and more exciting as an occasional "statement" rather than a routine replacement for scoring with skill
consider raising the basket some,
4. consider strictly enforcing aggressive foul rules to eliminate the brawling aspect of the game that has takien it over the past few decades and return it to a smoother, more skills-based game of playmaking, shooting teamwork and deception versus what it appears to be today: simply a barfight among tall guys on a small court.
Now would be an excellent time for the NBA to reinvigorate and remake itself into a game that can again be watched and enjoyed by all, young and old alike.

Having worked in healthcare for over thirty years, I can tell you that among the issues are beds, ventilators, N95 masks, personnel. Supplies and equipment are big issues. Hospitals would be overwhelmed with an influx of patients. As for the virus dissipating in the warm weather, that is an unknown with this virus, but it is more likely that testing and social distancing will eventually get this under control. The testing has been ridiculously slow.

When they resume (assume it's by September) do they finish the RS or just dive into the playoffs?

They'd have to dive right into the playoffs.
