Will the Sun Belt Tournament be cancelled after tonights games?
Tonight's games are about to start. No sense it cancelling those. Wouldn't be surprised if the tournament in New Orleans is cancelled after tonight's results are in. Practically no fans will show-up in New Orleans. So there is little danger. On the other hand, what's the point since it likely loses a ton of money.

OK with me if they send the regular season winner.

I'd love it as well. However, with a few hundred fans, in a 18K arena, the threat of spreading coronavirus is pretty minimal. I assume they will play, unless they announce something late tonight.

If they sound extremely similar, that's because they are, according to Manisha Juthani, MD, a Yale Medicine infectious disease specialist. “Based on symptoms alone, COVID-19 and flu are very difficult to distinguish,” says Dr. Juthani.

Well they are not hard to distinguish based upon the response of the basketball world. Has flu ever been mentioned as a reason to interrupt the Tournament, even though in the current flu season there have been over 20,000 deaths from the disease? I understand that politically speaking government entities have to over-respond, but this is beginning to border on the ridiculous (in my humble opinion). Fever, cough, shortness of breath, maybe sore throat and runny nose. My mother would not even have called a doctor for that. Get lots of sleep, drink lots of hot fluids, rub your chest with Vapo-Rub, and in a few days you will get better.

Turning down the NIT invite you guys already have received would look bad on the conference. You guys should honor that invite and USA should head to the Big Dance.

All kidding aside, I don't think there's any way they cancel the tournament but looking more like no one will be there to watch it as Southland, Big 10, Big 12 and ACC have banned fans from their remaining tournament games

Interesting to see if the Sun Belt makes an announcement now that the games are over. It would actually be silly to announce they won't let fans in. Just keep things as they are, and people tuning in will simply assume that fans weren't allowed in. Actually, South Alabama is certainly close enough to bring a nice contingent of fans. Be interesting to see if they do.

Fans from those other leagues now free to come to NOLA to see some championship basketball.

Nebraska’s coach fell ill on the sideline mid game and was rushed to the hospital. If he tests positive the NCAA tournament will be in trouble

According to the experts covid19 is 10 times more lethal than seasonal flu.

RE: Will the Sun Belt Tournament be cancelled after tonights games?
By Dr. Sharkawy On COVID-19:
“I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even
imagine?

RE: Will the Sun Belt Tournament be cancelled after tonights games?
Just for the record, this is the weekend for our family reunion. My 91-year-old mother has 22 grandchildren and somewhere in excess of 40 great-grandchildren (I've lost count), plus all the in-laws, and the better part of them will be here. We are going on with life. If we get sick, then we just get sick. We've been sick before.

You wonder what the economic impact of all this will be. Of course, the paper mills churning out toilet paper will be working overtime for a while - until the panic subsides and everyone has enough to last six months.

From an older guy who actually had it. "Only a mild cold for 98% of the people."

The Sun Belt is meeting this afternoon to discuss any possible changes. If there are changes, we'll be alerted and share through all channels. But, the teams are still traveling to New Orleans as we speak.

I assume the teams will play. Not sure about fans being allowed in, but considering our small attendance, in a huge arena, I'm thinking it's about 50-50 that they might be. But, I'm not sure what the point of playing is. We are the league champs. There will be handful of fans there. Money will be lost not made. The NCAA Tournament is likely to be cancelled. Let's just shut it down and be ahead of the curve for once.

I still hope the NCAA tournament is held. But, the more I think about, if multibillion dollar enterprises like the NBA and NHL, are shutting down, it's hard to imagine that college games will continue for very long.

It was not corona.

He may not have had Corona, but it shows just how easily the NCAA Tourney could be canceled altogether if just a coach, player, trainer, etc is confirmed to have it. That is what tipped the NBA to suspend the season.

Yes, maybe 80% just get a mild case. That 80% can still infect the 20 percent who fall in the high risk category. Perhaps your elder mom or dad gets covid19 from your mild case and dies? We dont need to panic. But we need to stop and think how what we do affects others.

RE: Will the Sun Belt Tournament be cancelled after tonights games?
https://www.thedailybeast.com/dr-anthony...oronavirus

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top expert on infectious diseases and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, set Fox News host Sean Hannity straight Tuesday night on the dangers the novel coronavirus outbreak presented to the United States, pointedly telling him that the virus is much more lethal than the seasonal flu.

Fauci, who earlier in the day starkly informed the public that “we can’t be doing the kinds of things we were doing a few months ago,” appeared on Hannity to discuss what still needs to be done to mitigate the outbreak.

After Fauci applauded Trump for banning travel with China early on in the outbreak, calling it the “right move,” Hannity—who has repeatedly downplayed the dangers of the virus—asked the doctor “one more very important question.”

“So the average age mortality for ‘corona’ is 80,” the Fox host said. “So this virus is impacting people with compromised immune systems, underlying other medical conditions are the most vulnerable. What about the other 99 percent? If people got the virus, worst-case scenario, how dangerous is it to them, compared maybe to the regular flu?”
Fauci responded that while 80 percent of those infected would get only mildly sick and quickly recover, roughly 15 percent “will get into trouble,” and the mortality rate in that group is “very high.”

“But Sean, to make sure your viewers get an accurate idea about what goes on, you mentioned seasonal flu,” he continued. “The mortality for seasonal flu is 0.1 [percent]. The mortality for this is about two, two-and-a-half percent. It’s probably lower than that, it’s probably closer to one. But even if it’s one, it’s 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu. You gotta make sure that people understand that!”
