For spring sports only at this time. They are still discussing winter sports.

I personally don’t think winter sport (includes basketball) athletes should get an extra year. The regular season was fully finished with a lot of teams completely done with no chance at postseason.

What about teams like Hofstra that made the big dance for the first time in 20 years and don't get to dance?

Tough luck Hofstra. Try again next year. Life isn’t fair.

I'm pretty positive you wouldn't feel the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

NCAA to grant extra year of eligibility to spring athletes

College seniors may not have played their final events after all.

GolfChannel.com confirmed reports that the NCAA is planning to grant an extra season of competition to all student-athletes who have participated in spring sports this year.

The decision comes a day after the NCAA canceled the rest of its winter and spring competition seasons, including all of its remaining championships. The NCAA Division I men's and women's golf championships were schedule to be played May 22-June 3 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Regionals were slated for early May.

NCAA cancels championships because of COVID-19 concerns

The NCAA's Council Coordination Committee is still discussing details, including whether winter-sport athletes will be considered for this exemption.

No amount of whining would give us the tournament game back.

No, but if they granted another year, it could help those teams get back. I recognize that would hurt UNCW as we had no seniors

They're giving spring sports players the extra year of eligibility (see a few posts above).

They're discussing Winter sports as we speak.

They already played a full regular season of basketball though. Just because some teams missed an extra 1 to 5 games, EVERY senior should get a year of eligibility back?

I get it, it's a gray area. And arguments can be made either way.

What's the harm in giving them the opportunity to come back?

Not all will take it and those that sincerely want to come back can.

Yes they did play an entire regular season no disputing that, BUT so much of NCAA basketball is your conference tournament and the NCAA tournament. You play all year to play in those events.

Give those seniors that want that opportunity a chance at it

I agree. Who loses in this scenario? It might give a little hope and optimism in an increasingly dark time

I understand as fans what we care about most are the tournaments. However, logically I disagree. These guys played a full season. Hell, our team was eliminated. Their season was absolutely over, and same for everyone but Hofstra. There’s no way they should be given another season of eligibility. No.

Baseball... completely different. They weren’t even to conference play yet.
