The Sun Belt Tournament is not listed at this time. I don't know if the mayor even knows about the Sun Belt Tournament. A couple of hundred folks in the 18,000 seat Smoothie King Center maybe the safest place to be in New Orleans.

Still, I'm all for cancelling the tournament and sending the Sun Belt Conference Champion to the NCAA tournament.

All "major" events cancelled by New Orleans mayor
NEW ORLEANS - The mayor of New Orleans says all events in the city are canceled this weekend.

The decision was announced only hours after the Department of Health said that two additional coronavirus cases were discovered in Orleans Parish. All three of Louisiana's presumptive positive cases of the virus are reported in that parish.

Mayor Latoya Cantrell says the cases do not appear to connected, prompting them to exercise extra caution.

Events affected by the decision include Wednesday’s at the Square, The Downtown Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Irish Channel parade, and the Super Sunday Mardi Gras Indian event.

Considering the fact that the arena will be 95% empty, the danger at the Sun Belt tournament is clearly minimal. Still, if all "major" events are cancelled, what would it say about the Sun Belt if they continue on as planned?

Reading stuff out of New Orleans, it sounds like the tournament would not necessarily meet the definition of a "public event". I guess the Sun Belt is a private organization who can make their own decision.
