When you look at the complete list of offers, it does seem like this is a very good get.
Plus, he is used to hot, muggy weather and bad traffic.
Penn, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Tulane, Troy, Jacksonville State, Rice, and ..... Iowa State.
Just because Iowa State made an offer does not make the complete list very impressive at all.
I guess we need to get somebody to turn down Alabama and Clemson to impress you.
But I impressed at both the number of offers and yes, some of the names. I see a number of schools we would not be favored over if we played them next year.
And which schools are those?

Troy, Tulane, and....Iowa State. Not sure if we would be favored over some of the Ivies, especially if it was a road game for us. No idea about Jax St.

Differences of opinion are what make betting lines.
Curious to see what you and others think would be the lines against Tulane and Troy.
personally, I have high hopes for a McCaffrey-led team (or led by whoever beats out McC), but hopes do not make me pull out the wallet.

Last year's final Massey Composite rankings:
1. Alabama
3. Clemson
-----------------------------
9 Iowa State
70. Tulane
88. Troy
98. Rice
-------------------------------
Jacksonville State
Ivy League schools
My point was that the "school that did not belong" was Iowa State, and that the "others" (including Rice) comprised a meh list.

Certainly OSU was an outlier, but they DID offer, and I see no reason to think that was a mistake on their part. I also note the schools expressing interest who had not offered...yet. Cal, Georgia, UNC Penn State, TCU.
I am not sure who or how many you need to be impressed.
And I note that Troy, Tulane and ISU were all ranked above us and therefore are likely to be favored in a match up.
Anecdote, of no importance in this discussion: I attended the last game between ISU and Rice in Ames.

Iowa State (which I follow as my dad's alma mater :-)) is pretty well known as a program that extends a ton of offers - we're talking 350+ per class. They were one of the pioneers of the tactic, really, which is now more widespread throughout P5, especially non-elite programs. Obviously a lot of those offers are rankly speculative on the schools' parts, and eventually get pulled or otherwise become uncommittable. To put it diplomatically, a P5 offer -- especially a lone one from a high-offering school -- doesn't say what it used to.

maybe. But it says more than no offer.
My son's wife was an ISU alumnus, so when Rice was playing ISU in Ames I seized on the opportunity to visit them in Des Moines AND attend a Rice game. In the stadium, my son was sitting between me and his wife, and I asked which team he would be rooting for. He spent the entire game yelling "GO, Team".

Arizona States stud punter (Turk) is transferring. His Uncle (Matt) was a longtime Texans punter and still lives out here. I see him now and then - I will try to get a sense of where he might end up next time I see him.

Was Bert Emanuel the former Rice QB who was indicted and convicted of some crime while serving as a Dallas PD officer? I recall he was probably the fastest offensive (or defensive) player Rice ever had, with possible exception of James Sikes.

Quentis Roper was the convicted police officer, and Bert Emanuel was WAY faster than Sykes.

We did just get a commitment from Miguel Cedeno, a 6-7, 315 pound OT from Miami, FL. He's a 3 star OL with offers from Utah, West Virginia, Tulane, FAU and USM.

Either Bloomgren is a horrible evaluator of talent, or just terrible about finding competent assistant coaches to develop that talent. Right now, from what I've seen on the field, I'd go with 80%/20%.
