Women's CAA Tourney Thread
For some reason, I rarely seem to check the "Important Threads" section up above. But, I saw the commercials for the women's tournament at Elon during the men's game and decided to look in on how the women did this year.
Holy cow, wait a minute.... They had 21 wins too? And they're the 3 seed??
Now, like most people, I pay more attention to the men's team. But I am very, very sorry I did not pay more attention to the women this year. Maybe they can provide some solace for the disappointing finish for the men.
A peek at the standings seems to indicate that JMU and Drexel are the prohibitive favorites, but can someone with more expertise let me know if the Tribe has a puncher's chance here or not?

We can beat both JMU and Drexel. We had Drexel beat, and threw the game away. They won by 10 in overtime. JMU is a really tough match up for anyone. They just wore us down both times. We lose one really good player, but that's it. Most of the team returns next year. Hodgson should be first team all conference this year.

Tribe Women -- 21 Wins -- 3 Seed
Oh we absolutely do. I'd favor Drexel or JMU against us in any given game but we definitely have a shot at pulling off an upset. Hodgson is one of the most talented players in the conference so if she gets hot things could really go our way.

If you've never watched Hodgson, her game will remind you of Grant Riller or Vasa Pusica. She's very physical and takes it to the hoop and is powerful enough to finish with both hands. She's 8th in the nation in scoring, 4th in free throws made, and 3rd in free throw percentage, also 35th in field goal percentage and 18th in 3 point percentage. She's a freak and only a sophomore.

Yep. The greatest compliment that I give a women's basketball player is that she plays like a dude. Like mentioned, her game is physical. She creates contact off the dribble and can score with contact. Couple that with being a very good shooter makes her the total package offensively. She's only a sophomore and only getting better.

I think W&M is a bigger threat to JMU than Drexel at this point. Drexel does have Coach Dillon as their secret weapon, so you never know. But based on the last two weekends, W&M is a tougher matchup than Drexel for the Dukes. All that said, I'm not overlooking any team after last year's conference tourney implosion.

Why is there a separate thread for this, since we had one WBB thread all year (if you noticed it in the "important threads" section then why didn't you use it?).
Okay, everybody, get this:
W&M men played Elon in the last regular season game, and won.
W&M men were seeded second in the CAAT. Elon played and won the play-in game. W&M then lost to that same Elon team in the quarterfinals.
JMU women played Elon in the last regular season game, and (narrowly) won.
JMU women are seeded second in the CAAT. Elon will play and will probably win the play-in game - because Elon plays CAA-winless Hofstra. Plus, Elon is playing at home. So, will JMU then lose to Elon in the quarterfinals?
So, perhaps, if things go according to form, Elon can upset the JMU women just like their men upset W&M. I would much rather play Elon (even at their home) than JMU. (Of course, with W&M's luck, all of that will probably happen but W&M will have already lost to Delaware first).

Zorch - My apologies for starting a separate thread specific to the tournament. Sorry to offend. Will definitely happen again.

Thanks all -- even HyperDuke! -- for some reason for optimism going into this tournament. Sounds like I need to pay better attention to Hodgson et al going forward.

RE: Tribe Women -- 21 Wins -- 3 Seed
Our AD is been a strong supporter of our women's athletic programs. As a dad of 3 girls including a current female Tribe student, I am a supporter of that. While I remain disappointed at her decision on the direction of the men's team last March, I would be excited for her, Coach Swanson and the entire current roster of the Tribe women's team if they could make a run this upcoming weekend. Regardless of whether they do or not, this has been a successful season for them. Eva may be the best player on campus period. Hopefully, the program will continue to build over the next several years. JMU is definitely the standard for the CAA on the women's side, but the Tribe has been inching closer the last few years beginning with Abby and Bianca and progressing now with Victoria and Eva. Defeating 3 teams in 3 days including both JMU and Drexel would be tough. Go Tribe and Good Luck this weekend!

Okay, that last line made me chuckle

Why dont we just change this thread name to the Womens CAA tourney thread. It is the de facto version at this point anyway.

I obviously did not appreciate the formality with which people treat these threads but ... here ya go!
