College students may be paying thousands in athletic fees and not know it
South Alabama ($967), App State ($760), Texas State ($600) and GA State ($550) seem to be the highest among Sun Belt schools.

It seems if you have been FBS for a while that you are on the lower end of the spectrum.

The state of Louisiana has weird laws about student fees being labeled or going toward athletics. They get their money in other ways.

TXST has 34K+ on campus undergrads as well IIRC....good Lord. We have 23K+ but the Savannah Campus does not pay a full fee. Nor does the GaSt Peremiter students they only pay $38 per semester $90 for Sav Campus students.

How does that work regarding Savannah campus? Only legacy Armstrong students pay reduced fee? Are new first year students applying to GaSo boro or Glass Savannah?

I wonder how close their estimate is to being accurate.

The real # that the media and parents/applicants need to pay attention to is % allocated-meaning the % of revenues an AD uses that come from the school (either through fees or school funds).

You'll notice that the schools on the lower end of the "athletic fees" list presented here have a high # of school funds allocated if you look at USA todays college finances list.

Although ULL and ULM both maintain % total allocation levels below the Sun belt averages.

New students have a choice of whether they want to live in Statesboro or Savannah. Core classes are offered at both campuses, but some major-specific classes are only taught on one campus, so new students who already know what they want to major in should pick the campus that their college is located on for example Engineering and Business are in Statesboro while Education and Healthcare are in Savannah.

Georgia Southern tries its very best to include the Savannah Campus in athletics. We've had volleyball, tennis, and soccer games in Savannah before. Our football team holds a fan event/open practice on the Savannah Campus every year before the season starts, and GS provides free transportation to and from Paulson Stadium for any interested Savannah students. But Savannah students don't get the same kind of easy access to GS athletics and therefore pay a smaller fee.

I bet almost everyone of those in the article are Bernie Bro’s. Wait until these complaining students realize what their tax dollars are paying for.

I guess what would be a little more accurate/clear is to see what is being spent per student (student fee and allocation) to get a feel for the cost. For example, USA allocates (student fees and university funds) $1,457.94 per student. ULM allocates $884.26 and ULL allocates $945.48. Someone may have to correct me but ULM and ULL are limited in the funds they can transfer based upon student enrollment (some sort of voodoo and common core math to figure it out. La Tech doesn't list any student fees but still allocates more that either ULM or ULL per student. With the exception of LSU (which takes no money from the school) I am pretty sure that ULM and ULL have the lowest fees and allocate the least amount per student in the state.
