Who played 11 minutes per game against back up Big 10 players and averaged 1.4pts per game and 1.5 rebounds. Decent FG% of 0.545 and a 0.415 FT% (on only 17 attempts so???). She’ll help us on certain match ups for sure but I’m not ready to anoint her all MAC. Will she be a Julie Studer or a Tiffany LeFleur. Time will tell. I like the height though we certainly need some.

Don't fool yourself with the MAC and Big Ten caliber of play.. Big Ten is much , much better with bigger bodies and athletics.. Ive watched this kid play against the top post players in the country and she handled them all .. Ive also watched all Kent's game's this year... especially post play ... not even close of a comparison ..

this kid is going to tear this league up...

Backups ?? ( this kid was 6th man off the bench ) played against all starters .. research before posting ...

She played 11 minutes a game. How much could she have played against starters? All I’m saying is until I see a transfer or freshman play all you have are statistics. Believe me I hope your right. Our post play has been below average no doubt.

As a freshmen she came in at at the 4 1/2 minute mark in the 1st Qt all season .. and played every Qt of the game .. some games avg 18-20 minutes.. ( 6th man )

As a soph she also was the 6th man ... until injuring her ankle .. competition is strong at a any power 5 team ..Kid played in every game where the game was on the line .. she battled and won 20 plus minutes towards the end of season when IU made their run into the NCAA Tourney .. ( 20 plus minutes Texas ) 1st round .. ( 17-18 miuntes ) 2nd round Oregon.. 25 plus minutes Big Ten Tourney .. Coming from the Big Ten to the MAC and playing big important minutes against the elite .. is a huge confidence builder ...

She will produce and is a producer .. she has the look of a Big Ten player and plays like one...

Out of High School ( ESPN 13th Ranked ) at her position 3 star
( Prospect Nation 14th Ranked ) at her position .. 81st best player in the country
4 star

If anybody still cares about the Kent State-Buffalo game, there's what I think is a pretty good preview on the blog at http://wbbFlashes.com.

On Linsey Marchese, the transfer from Indiana:

I've seen her in practice three or four times, and I think she's the real deal. She could be as good or better than Studer. She seems to have a really good attitude despite having to sit out a year.

She's as sturdy a player as I've ever seen in a Kent uniform. She must have 25 pounds on Barber-Smith -- none of it fat. No one is going to push her around underneath the basket.

Marchese had double-doubles in all three games in Canada last summer even though she didn't play more than 15 minutes a game. Of course that was Division II-level opposition, but still she was one of Kent's best players on the tour.

Number 1 seed is in trouble. Down 54-44 with 1:30 left in the third. Toledo has out scored them 20-5 in the third period.

Number 1 goes down 78-69 before 25 roaring Toledo fans. CMU goes 16-0 and then loses last 3 games.

Finally beat Buffalo 72-66. Blackford played well. Five for ten and 14 points. We needed her tonight and she came through. Number #2 seed Ball St got beat so we will be playing (hopefully) EMU on Friday.

Blackford also had 13 rebounds, more than any of Buffalo's bigs.

I think we could call this Kent State's best game of the year. The Flashes played four solid quarters, the biggest being a 24-15 third quarter when they took and held the lead.

Key numbers:
• 26-11 in points off turnovers. Buffalo had a combined advantage of 35-26 in first two games.
• 32-32 in points in the paint. In the teams' first game, it was Buffalo 28-12. In the second, it was Buffalo 38-14.
• Rebounding was 38-34 Buffalo, and the teams were 8-8 on second chance-points. On Saturday, Buffalo outrebounded KSU 47-34 and had a 23-15 edge on second-chance points.

Asiah Dingle had 18 points, seven assists and four steals. When she checked into the game after five minutes, she led a 9-2 run with three baskets, two assists and a steal.

Katie Shumate had 12 points and eight rebounds. Megan Carter had 12 and made eight-of-nine free throws.

As a team, the Flashes made 24-of-27 foul shots.

Going into the game, Flashes were 3-17 against Buffalo since 2012. The Bulls knocked them out of the tournament in the quarterfinals the last two seasons.

Story is being posted on the blog at http://wbbFlashes.com.

RE: MAC Women's Tournament
This is a cool little story by Kathryn Rajnicek, one of my students at Kent State, at what it's like watching basketball in an almost-empty arena.

--

It’s much too quiet at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

No bands playing school fight songs. No cheerleaders pumping up the crowd.

About all you hear is the PA announcing the scoring and the music pulsing from the speakers of the main scoreboard through timeouts and between quarters.

The only fans in attendance are family members of players. They take up two small sections, but the rest of the 19,000 seats are vacant. The rows and rows of empty chairs make the fieldhouse look bigger than it is.

Fans create so much of the atmosphere of college sports. Without them, March loses much of its madness.

Sad thoughts on the end of the tournament for the Flashes. I really thought they had a chance to win it after Wednesday night. And I'm especially sad for the seniors.

A short post is on the blog at http://wbbFlashes.com.

There's also a collection of photos, videos and tweets from the last few days.
