A shame that this was the final home game for Ako and Rob. Really hope we string together a few good games in the tournament. Feels like they both played in a really unfortunate period of almost wasted basketball. Coaching changes, last-minute recruiting classes, and transfers that depleted the roster. Both easily had the potential to help a program on more stable ground push for a tournament birth. Easy to overlook and then forget about the guys who contribute in the down years.

Agree. Just seems this team and program are close...

Rice recruit Cam Sheffield's team won the 6A Georgia State Championship yesterday. Didn't see a box score, but according to the running account Cam scored 21 points. Heard from a trusted source yesterday that he may be the Georgia player of the year.

RE: MBB vs. UTEP
I don't think there was a time during the game where I had any confidence that Rice would take control and win the game. By not playing any of their posts, Rice had to double team the UTEP posts and the Miners were able to find the open man time and time again. Offensively the lanes were not open and Drew Peterson just got pushed around the court all night. He has to get much stronger to compete effectively. So when you can't find a lane to drive, your perimeter shots better be falling or you will lose, and that is exactly what happened. Robert Martin really worked hard yesterday and competed more effectively than any Owl on the court. The Owls will miss his play on the court next year. A combined 8 turnovers by Chris Mullins and Josh Parrish did not help either. For a team that states that they wanted to play fast, Rice was unable to establish an effective fast break offense yesterday. UTEP had 16 points off fast breaks while the Owls had 3.

I think I predicted a .500 Owl program this year (I have to go back and see the season prediction thread). They will need 2 wins in the tournament to accomplish that feat. Looking forward to Wednesday's games. (I'll be out in Katy watching the Southland Conference Tournament).

That's certainly good news for upcoming season(s). Would be nice if Rice deigned to play a game or two in GA, esp. the Atlanta area , over the next few seasons. We've had several GA players over the past seasons but don;t seem to get out there too often. With Houston and Atlanta airports being what they are, travel is not an issue.

Good luck to Owls in the CUSA tournament. Hope they can win a game this time, or better yet, several.

Not all too surprising, but no Rice players selected for any of the conference teams. I thought Peterson could've slipped onto the third team, but didn't happen.
