I believe North Florida (21-12 ASUN) should receive an NIT bid a co-regular season champion.

No. It’s only the #1 seed of each conference. UNF will have to settle for the CIT/CBI.

Although if Liberty wins, North Florida could have a case for an at-large NIT bid

UNF is 174 in the NET. They’re not making the NIT.

Never mind then. A co-championship won't save them.

RE: 2020 NIT/CBI/CIT bids thread
My mistake. I thought...

- Auto NIT bids went to regular season conference champions who then fail to receive an NCAA Tourny bid.

But you say...

- #1 seeds in conference tournaments who fail to attain the NCAA auto bid then receive the NIT bid.

It doesn’t matter if you are a co-regular season conference champion. You must have the #1 conf. tourny bid to get an auto NIT bid.

correct. If there are co-champions, only the #1 seed gets the chance at auto-bid.

Note in the NEC, if Robert Morris loses, they aren't NIT bound, as Merrimack won the conference(just isn't eligible for the conference tourney).

Quite, as stever20 notes.

It's THE regular season champion, not A regular season champion. It's not whether your conference says you have permission to hang up a regular season banner, it's rather whether you are the #1 school in the conference based on regular season conference play ... including whatever tie-breakers for schools with the same conference record.

If your #1 regular season school wins the NCAA autobid, there is no NIT autobid for being "#2 but really close".

RE: 2020 NIT/CBI/CIT bids thread
Based on past selections a mid-major needs to be in the top 40 NET to get in as an NCAA at-large. At the moment these are the possibles:

2 Gonzaga (WCC) 29-2
3 Dayton (A-10) 28-2
4 San Diego State (MWC) 29-1
9 BYU (WCC) 23-7
20 Houston (AAC) 22-8
29 Saint Mary's (WCC) 23-7
37 Richmond (A-10) 24-7
39 ETSU (SoCon) 24-4

stretching a bit
43 Utah State (MWC) 23-8
47 Northern Iowa (MVC) 23-6
48 Wichita State (AAC) 22-8
49 Cincinnati (AAC) 19-10

I have to believe the committee will give the AAC one at-large, even if Memphis wins the tourney. Likely also the MWC if SDSU wins and US does even respectable. But for that at-large, they really need at least 4 of those 8 schools in the top 40 NET to win their conference. Very hard to see the committee give more than 5 or 6 at-large to Mid-Majors. But those left out but on this list are pretty safe bets for NIT at-large.

AAC isn't a mid-major. Cute try though.

I feel like the CBI reaches out to just about every power conference team.

Seems like that's their niche ... a younger P6 team that didn't make the Tourney or the NIT where the coach wants to get some post post-season experience under their belt. The other teams are to make up the numbers, and the chance to play a beatable P6 team in the post-season is part of the lure.

Yeah, the first few years the CBI was pretty good about getting those teams.

3 P6 teams in the first year (Virginia, Washington, Cincinnati), but that's the most it's ever had. In 16, 17, and 18 no P6 teams competed, though last year they got both DePaul and West Virginia. Issue is even some of the better mid major teams are staying away - even last year a 24-9 College of Charleston turned down a bid but a 13-20 Cal State Northridge competed.

It looks like Valpo will accept a bid to either. Hopefully getting a CBI bid.

North Texas won the C-USA regular season title over a week ago. By doing that they were guaranteed an invitation to the NIT. If we fail to win the conference tournament, and secure a spot in the NCAA Tourney than I'm sure UNT will be in the NIT.

yes they’re guaranteed a spot in the NIT if they don’t win the CUSA tournament
