Senior Day DH at Tudor on Saturday
I know the athletic department is really hoping for a good student crowd tomorrow for the men's/women's basketball doubleheader at Tudor. It would be really nice if we could get some alumni/fan support as well.

The men's game vs UTEP is at 1 pm. Technically we've already had the senior day for our 5 seniors (which by the way is one of the larger senior classes we've had in years). But Ako Adams and Rob Martin in particular deserve another big send-off. They've been 4-year starters/big contributors and while all of their teammates were leaving, they stuck it out to their big credit. Now they have a chance to finish their careers with a winning record and maybe even a postseason tournament of some type. It reminds me quite a bit of Seth Gearhart/Tamir Jackson a few years back.

We also have 4-year lettermen Tim Harrison and Addison Owen. They didn't get a chance to contribute as much on the floor as Ako and Rob. But they are both great students and will be huge successes I'm sure in life. Tommy McCarthy - the Harvard grad transfer - rounds out the quintet. They won their first Senior Day in blowout fashion over Charlotte. Let's hope they get to repeat the performance tomorrow.

Honestly the game doesn't mean a ton since both teams are in the tournament. The winner is the 11 seed and the loser the 12 seed. But I'm sure we want to beat UTEP after 2 earlier losses to them, get above .500 for the season and go into the conference tournament as the hottest team in the conference.

The women's game at 3:30 has quite a bit more riding on it. If we win, we've successfully defended our conference championship. We co-champs if we lose, but I'm sure we want that 1 seed and a banner that says champions and not co-champions.

And while the women only have 1 senior, that one happens to be Erica Ogwumike who just happens to rank first in school history in scoring average (17.7), second in rebounds per game (10.1) and third in free throw percentage (81.1%). She deserves a massive send-off in a really important game.

So let's pack Tudor!

For the men, it is also a chance to match last years conference record and seed, and Pod 3 ‘championship’.

We just need to beat UTEP. We’ve had em twice and both times they got away

I mentioned this in another thread, but it's ridiculous that both of these games are exclusively available through CUSATV. I'm not versed in the intricacies of media rights and ESPN+/ESPN3, but it's kind of silly to hype up these two "senior send-off" games when the only way for non-Houstonians to watch is by paying *more than an actual ticket costs*.

Watching numbers change on a stat tracker isn't exactly as captivating as actually watching the games.

And the symmetry for the day is complete! The men’s game featured a game between the last two seeds in the tourney (lost by Rice to claim the bottom overall seed). The women’s game featured a game between the top two seeds, WON by Rice to claim the top seed! (And even more importantly, the Title!)

And yeah, if I “knew” we could only have one win, I think we all would have taken the women’s win for the Title!

One more item of symmetry, our women beat ODU by the same 73-70 score by which our men lost to ODU last month (our men’s ONLY loss in the last 10 games to anyone but UTEP! )
