I think this is it. Marshall had his team in a position to clinch 4th place seed in the AAC tourney, pretty much solidify his team's slot in the NCAA tourney & they laid an egg. That's frustrating for a competitive coach. He sees it much harder now to make the tourney. WSU probably now has to beat Tulsa to finish the season & win a couple of games in the AAC tourney. Would have been much better to get a Q1 win at Memphis. And yeah, he's 1-3 against Memphis. Frustration is what I saw. Don't think he's prick at all. Especially considering how gracious he was to Alo & Penny to let Alo out of his signed LOI.

To be clear, he's 1-3 against Penny. He was 1-0 against Tubby.

As for letting A-lo out...He was pretty much going to have to do that. Had he resisted initially, he would have taken a bashing in public, and it might have cost him future recruits. Then he would have let him out anyway. Kudos I guess for him realizing this up front and not fighting it.

Marshall is a great coach. And not his job to defend Penny per se.

But speaking of "prick" and supporting conference partners as noted above ... with friends like this. And to think I was outspoken in wanting to bring a non-football member in. From several of them on the conference message board, we are the big bad wolf and they made it far more challenging to monitor it prior to their entry. Careful who you ask out on a date ..

I swear people newspapers have to stop publishing opinion pieces in their papers. That post has no more credibility than a facebook post. But putting in the paper gives it credibility and so many people will just take it as fact.

Misinformation is going to be the end of us before long.

RE: GreggMarshall hates losing to Memphis
Why would Marshall care about how good Penny is doing? He wouldn’t.
I sure wouldn’t as an opposing coach.

Goofy question.

Nobody outside of our area and ardent Penny fans give a damn.

I don't see a problem with his answer. It was a correct statement and besides, the dude just lost a game. Coaches die a little every time they lose a game. Not the best time to be addressing that issue. Stupid question, I wonder who asked it?

Aside from this anecdotal incident, he was commenting correctly about the reputation he has for being a prick.

I believe Marshall did have a choice. I don't recall any high profile transfers of this type allowed within conference. I'm sure there are likely some but I do think Marshall could have been a prick and said no, sit out a year or he could have said ok but not within the AAC. But he wasn't a prick. He did what a decent individual would do. Doesn't mean he didn't have other motives, enhance recruiting etc but we don't know those things. On its face, it was a very nice decision & for that Marshall was & should be commended. BTW, at the time Penny thought it was good too, he said so publicly.

Or he could be not look like an ass and not have Alo...

Which one would anyone choose.

Wtf are you talking about? He had no choice. IF he would have been a prick and told him to sit out, that would have been held against him in every single recruiting battle for the rest of his life. Nobody does that.

He is actually well known for being exceptionally nice. He personally takes people on tours of the basketball facility. He is open and will sit and talk to anyone.

This is well known in the coaching community.

When we had interest in him as a coach he said he was interested in the job, then didn't return our calls. He might be well thought of among some of his peers, but he is well known to generally be a prick otherwise.
