Question Division 1 Conferences By the Numbers
I did some calculations on how teams in the 32 D-1 conferences are spread out. Here they are just FYI, all AFTER scheduled realignments over the next few years, including new additions to the Division:

The mean number of teams per conference: 11.2
Median: 11
Mode (most common): 10
Range: 8 (Ivy League only) to 15 (ACC only)

Eventually, barring some further realignment news, this is the breakdown of what the leagues will be:

9 leagues with 10 members: A-Sun, Big 12, CAA, MEAC, MVC, Patriot, SoCon, SWAC, and WCC

8 leagues with 11 members: AAC, Big East, Big Sky, Big West, Horizon, MAAC, MWC, and NEC

5 leagues with 12 members: Big South, MAC, OVC, Pac-12, and Sun Belt

4 leagues with 14 members: A-10, Big Ten, C-USA, and SEC

3 leagues with 9 members: America East, Summit, and WAC

1 league with 15 members: ACC

1 league with 13 members: Southland

1 league with 8 members: Ivy

Changes will include:

Big South adding NCA&T from MEAC to go from 11 to 12

AAC losing UConn to Big East to go from 12 to 11

Big East adding UConn from AAC to go from 10 to 11

Big West adding Cal State Bakersfield from WAC and UCSD from D-2 to go from 9 to 11

Horizon adding Purdue-Fort Wayne from Summit to go from 10 to 11

A-Sun adding Bellarmine from D-2 to go from 9 to 10

MEAC losing NCA&T to Big South to go from 11 to 10

WAC losing Cal State Bakersfield to Big West and UMKC to Summit while adding Dixie State and Tarleton State from D-2 to stay at 9

Summit losing Purdue-Fort Wayne to Horizon while adding and UMKC from WAC to stay at 9

Currently there are 353 members of D-1, and there will eventually be 357, barring further changes.

If there is anything I missed, please feel free to comment.

Summit adding UMKC (on top of the FW/ST trade) so they’ll be at 10. WAC to 9.

Thanks. I'll make the correction.

St Thomas going to Summit is only speculation and is not official.

Really? I thought it was official. I'll correct it.

Being voted on next month. Supposedly likely, but not official

They're invited and pursuing a road to go from D3 to D1 without spending a decade or so in D2. I'd say it's going to happen if the NCAA allows it.

Right, that’s why it’s not official, as the NCAA hasn’t ruled if they are going to allow it on not.

If they have an invitation contingent on the NCAA allowing it ... then the NCAA officially allowing it is what it would take to let it become official. Even though I think it's likely that the NCAA will find a way that will satisfy all concerned parties that the direct paths to either D2 or D1 out of non-scholarship D3 are under appropriate conditions ...
... that remains speculation until the NCAA makes it official by actually doing it and getting it voted on and approved.
