RE: WBB vs UTEP
After last night's games, Real Time RPI now has Western Kentucky with the top RPI in the league (27), followed by ODU (30), Middle Tennessee State (51), Charlotte (54) and Rice (57).

I've been updating conference standings a bit over in the conference board. But basically we know we're either going to be the 1 or 2 seed (along with ODU), and Western Kentucky is now guaranteed a top-4 seed as well. Either MTSU or Charlotte will be the other top 4 seed (whomever wins their game Saturday). UAB will probably be the 5 or 6 seed. Marshall could sneak in front of UTEP to be the 7 seed. UTEP will probably be the 7 or 8 seed. After that it's pretty tight with Southern Miss, La Tech, FAU and UNT. You can pretty much guarantee our first game at the conference tournament will be against one of those last 6 teams.

As a projected 12 seed, we’d still be projected among the first 4 out as an at-large. Ga Tech is the only projected at large as a 12 seed, the other three “last in” teams are 11s.

Because WKU and ODU both had at least one solid OOC win. We played a very good OOC but fell just short on a couple games that would have put us right up there with those teams in RPI if we’d won them.

Or... if you meant: why would our first game be against one of the first six? perhaps FBO meant our first game would be against one of the last two teams (UTEP or Marshall) and our first TWO games (should we advance) would be against teams from that last six.

RE: WBB vs UTEP
I think he meant why is WKU's RPI higher than ours (which you already answered). They have good NC wins against Central Michigan (RPI of 18 - they lead the MAC), Belmont (RPI of 52 - they lead the Ohio Valley) and another two wins against teams with RPI's in the 70's (Oklahoma and Ball State). Our best NC win is against Northern Arizona (RPI of 174). Luckily the top 6 teams in CUSA are pretty solid so we do have an outside chance at an at-large bid. But it's probably going to require a win against ODU tomorrow to give us the outright regular-season title, and then probably making it to the championship game (which would probably give us another win over either WKU or MTSU).

And no, we don't know who we're playing in our first game of the conference tournament but it has to be a team anywhere from 7th to 10th place in the standings so it's going to be one of the six teams I mentioned.
