Both are looking to save some money. Chicago State is dirt poor and UMKC is departing the WAC.

Chicago State University will not play scheduled men's games at Seattle University on March 5 and at Utah Valley University of March 7. The CSU women's team will not host games against the same two opponents.

In addition, the University of Missouri-Kansas City has determined that its men's basketball team will not travel to Seattle for its game on March 7.

"While disappointed that the situation has evolved as it has, I fully respect the right of any member institution to determine what it believes to be in the best interest of its student-athletes," said WAC Commissioner Jeff Hurd. "From a conference standpoint, the necessary adjustments will be made according to NCAA policy in order to bracket the conference tournament scheduled for March 11-14 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas."

At this time all other conference events will proceed as scheduled. The WAC will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation and work with member institutions and local authorities to make any necessary changes to protect the safety and well-being of all involved.

I'm more amazed they are still open at all. I was there 10 years ago and I've seen nicer community colleges.

J/K - I liked the WAC when we were in it.

Chicago State is 4-25 with wins over Judson College, Purdue Northwest, North Park and SIU-Edwardsville (my nephew's alma mater actually). They've lost 19 straight games, the last 18 by double digits or higher.

I'm sure the WAC doesn't mind them not playing.

They are barely able to keep the heat going in the winter for the dorms. A few years ago they wasted money on studies that included adding a marching band and non scholarship FCS football. This with under three thousand students and only around 150 student athletes. A few years ago there Women's Basketball team had 6 scholarship players.

They are mulling not going to the WAC Tournament in Vegas next week too.
