MyBB Adopt a Team: Dayton
Apologies for a new thread, but there doesn't seem to be a way to start a new poll without starting a new thread.

So... reference this thread post: https://csnbbs.com/thread-895035.html

The top 3 results were Dayton, ETSU, and W&M. This time you can only choose one. The winner will receive more attention from us, and we can use this thread as a catch-all for posts related to the adopted team(s).

This time I will have the poll close by sometime Saturday. Cheers

I'd vote for W&M if I thought they were getting in. I don't see them getting in...

Dayton has moved up to #3 in the polls due to Baylor's loss. Their next game is tomorrow.

RE: Adopt a Team: Top 3 Voting
William and Mary is where I received my bachelor's degree, and that is going back to the days of their major upset against UNC. For the last 30+ years I've been a devoted ODU fan. I would love to see W&M finally win the CAA title and make the NCAA's. If they make it to the final game, we may go up to DC to see them play.

RE: Adopt a Team: Top 3 Voting
It appears Dayton is going to win this voting thing.

Dayton won last night in a sold out Rhode Island road game 84-57. Talk about domination.

Next game is a home game against George Washington on Saturday 3/7 at 7pm.

Need a feel-good story, Dayton fits. Haven't adopted a team since Lo-Chi that one year

Definitely Dayton b/c we beat them a couple of years ago (thanks to Haynes). And I will always root against b&m. Didn’t enjoy them waxing us at “the clap.”

Random, but Norfolk State is the favorite to win the MEAC despite being the 3rd seed:

Probably doesn't hurt that they're playing at the Scope.

Yeah, I was wondering how that factors into the probabilities

NSU or Hampton has made it to the finals the last 5 tournaments. NSU making 2 of the last 3. So it's a good bet they at least make the final.

But NSU hasn't won one since 2012, the year they beat 2 seed Mizzou behind Kyle O'Quinn. Also of note, that was the last year it wasn't held at the Scope.

I'll be curious to see how the MEAC tournament fares in Norfolk down the line. Hampton's gone and N.C. A&T is following them out. They still have NSU in town of course, and N.C. Central and the D.C. schools fairly close, but losing those two programs really hurts.

The contract ends after the 2021 tournament. So they'll likely be negotiating with little idea how the A&T departure will impact them. But it's hard to envision them leaving Norfolk, especially with the MEAC HQ being here.

Agreed, at least as of now. Norfolk is still centrally located to the conference and while not having Hampton and A&T is obviously not good, it's still better than going too far north or south. Of course, a lot can happen in the next year. Central and Howard could leave. One or more schools could drop to D2. The MEAC could bring up Virginia State and/or Winston-Salem State. Alabama State and Alabama A&M could move from the SWAC. The SWAC and MEAC could merge into an HBCU megaconference (unlikely, but theoretical). A lot of moving parts which may affect Norfolk's interest in keeping the MEAC after next year, and whether other cities might be more or less inclined to bid.

But all things equal, they'd probably stay. Norfolk has been a good home for the tournament.

In the back of my head, I keep thinking there may be some MEAC schools that would love to go back to D2 and reignite some of those great CIAA rivalries. So perhaps that mindset is what ran off A&T and HU, who have much higher aspirations. But it's just an assumption at this point and isn't really worth the bandwidth used to type it out LOL.

I believe it was reported when NSU moved up to D1 that they did so largely because Hampton moved, and they didn't want to lose the rivalry. I think they're secure enough in D1 now, or at least more so than Savannah State was or some of the lower-rung programs are now.

Anyone that wants to go back to the CIAA probably just wants to go to the CIAA tournament again.
