Members of black church in Selma, AL turn their backs on Bloomberg
Billions not meaning much in Selma I guess. Good for them.

Quote:With Democratic presidential candidates blitzing states set to vote on “Super Tuesday” this week, a handful of congregants at a historic black church in Selma, Ala., delivered a stunning rebuke of Mike Bloomberg on Sunday.

Ten minutes into his remarks about voter suppression and the civil rights movement, about a dozen churchgoers stood up and turned their backs to the candidate, where they silently stayed in place for the duration of the speech.

It was the 55th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” when state troopers viciously attacked black civil rights activists who marched over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.

Gathered at the Brown Chapel AME Church just blocks away from the bridge, the anti-Bloomberg churchgoers seemed to evoke the legacy of nonviolent protest immortalized on March 7, 1965.

Not a very Christian action.

RE: Members of black church in Selma, AL turn their backs on Bloomberg
You see this a lot - these candidates going to places where they are not wanted and not supported.

- did these candidates think that they are/were supported there?
- do they know they are not supported, but are trying to talk with that group to sway them?
- what kind of message does it send to others when they show up at an event and get that kind of reception?

It is a slippery slope IMO. You show up and get boo'ed, or they turn their back on you or whatever kind of way to express NOT supporting you. I know these candidates need to sway voters who might not be on their side, but FFS know your audience. You could stand there with $1,000 checks for each of them and they are not budging.

I think people know when they are being used.

If you want the support of any particular community, get involved before you are running for office.

I thought, due to his unlimited funds, Bloomie would make a big splash and, if not take the nomination, give Bernie a good run for his money. After watching him in action, it's obvious no amount of money is going to make up for his inability to relate to common peeps.

I get it. However, OTOH I can emphasize with Bloomberg because if he did not go to a black church he would be criticized for not reaching out to the African-American community. Its a tough line to tow. I guess they would all rather have their candidates pander to them like Tom Steyer did a few days ago dancing to hip-hop music (I realize he is now out of the race).

He has the personality of tepid water. There's nothing to get excited about him for Demos except his money.

Or maybe they were told of his Stop and Frisk Policy and they were just preparing for it? 03-lmfao

To be fair, Steyer did a lot more with the black community here in SC than just dance at Allen University. He met with and listened to groups all over the state for the past couple of months, enough so that I really believe had Clyburn not given Biden his endorsement at the absolute last minute that Steyer would have made a good bit of hay in the black community. But once Clyburn endorsed Biden the writing was on the wall because despite being as worthless as tits on a bull in DC Clyburn holds considerable sway in the black community here at home.

I was nervous at first about him, but after his first response to a question on stop and frisk I knew he was done. I’m not sure what he could have ever said that would have made a difference, but he couldn’t even come off as a human being when questioned about it.
