It was a horrendously bad call.

Offensive goaltending wasn't really close:

All 3 game changing, damaging goaltending calls were missed. Ridiculous.

Offensive goaltending wasn't really close:

Depends on how you look at a regular alley oop, a whole lot of those are technically offensive goal tending. Its whether you think Harris was shooting or passing, its a extremely subjective call. I personally don't think offensive goaltending should ever be called until after the ball hits the rim or backboard, whose to say whether the player is passing or shooting? I think defensive goaltending rule is good as is.

Also, I am assuming "wasn't really close" means as a Tiger fan you think it was goaltending and, as a Tiger fan, you would have said "wasn't even close" if you thought the call was a bad call? I don't really know what you meant.
The difference between that play and an alley opp is and alley oop the ball is going up still 99% of the time when the player catches it. On that play the ball was clearly on it's downward trajectory when Precious caught it.

That's not even close. 99% of the time the alley oop pass is going down, unless the passer is standing underneath the ooper.

What? If 99% of alley oop passes where still going up then there would be about a 5% conversion rate, the others would all sail out of bounds... 03-lmfao

Imagine throwing an alley oop pass from just a 6 foot guard from the three point line that makes it over the defenders and is still going up 22 feet later on a 10 foot goal. I was not great at geometry but something tells me those numbers do not quite work out...

I have the same view about offensive goaltending. Based on Harris' reaction I don't think that was a pass. 03-lol

He might've designed it in practice, but during the game, Penny was clearly the one on the board showing assignments.

That video has nothing to do with the play in question.

With that said, it was a HORRIBLE call!!

Toppert talked about this on Calkins show this morning.
He said the Harris 3 out of the TO was a suggestion from Miller.
He said the Precious lob was a play that Toppert adapted from his NBA days, and that they practice. But he said that as soon as they huddled for the TO that Penny called for the play.
He also said it show good growth by the players to be able to take the play from the board in the huddle, and actually execute it.

Sort of flies in the face of internet coaches who say:
a) too much talking in the huddles - players don't know where to listen, or
b) Penny doesn't listen to his staff, or
c) Penny doesn't have enough experience on his staff, or
d) whatever other silliness internet coaches have come up with lately.

I agree with most of your points but Penny does have a inexperienced staff. Madlock has the most. Toppert is a skills guy, MM and PH are virtual coaching babies.

To me our biggest problem is a lack of focus and discipline. Some of this is youth, some of it is also a lack of experienced coaching imo.

Just glad to see us pull one out

Here’s a highlight link of the full game.
End of regulation play at 26:25
https://youtu.be/TRMIxbyWSgo

I was watching on the Internet on one of the reddit links, and complimentary about how this one had no lagging, or pop ups when the feed switched with one minute left in the game.
Drove me crazy.

Glad we won...

Learned something new today.

You are right that is what the rule says.

If the ball is on its way down and has a chance to go in it doesn't matter if you are on offense or defense it is goal tending. So ask yourself if Tulane would have slapped the ball away at that point would you have wanted 2 points.
