Dane Acker
Congrats to Dane Acker for throwing a no-no vs LSU. Seems to have developed well over the last year or so.

The good ones transfer out (Luis Aviles also had a big clutch hit for Tulane yesterday) and we get left with the table scraps.

Players transfer for different reasons. Let's leave it at that.

“Table scraps?” Cienfuegos doesn’t deserve that, certainly not today.

Cienfuegos isn’t a transfer...

I’m referring to all sports... Marcus Evans is a lot better than Tommy McCarthy, Acker better than Jack Conlon (who hasn’t even played), etc...

That’s not a statement on any of those student athletes’ character or personalities. For all I know, Acker could be a terrible person and Conlon could be a future Nobel Peace Prize Winner... I’m just referring to their skill level.

Again, Acker transferred because he didn't want to go to classes. Had absolutely nothing to do with Wayne or Bragga or anybody else. Our coaching staff coveted him.

How do you know this? What a ridiculously presumptive, arrogant, and elitist thing to say about a kid who transferred to an OBVIOUSLY better program.

I guarantee you he’s going to classes.

I’d heard that from non-Walt sources for what it’s worth.

I'm sure this was just a coincidence.

One should not denigrate a players' resolve to the classroom in this type of situation. Players and families re-evaluate their own commitment to a school when coaching changes, etc., are made. There have been plenty of examples on both sides of this particular equation (and Dane had a solid GPA).

Oh, and congrats to Dane Acker - a local recruit from Brenham, TEXAS - for pitching the only no-hitter - EVER - against LSU baseball!

He didn't transfer from Rice to OU. He went the JUCO route with the hope of being drafted last year. He was drafted, but not until the 24th round, so he transferred to OU.

Walt, given that you’re the resident expert on all things baseball related, I’m shocked that you didn’t know he couldn’t just transfer to OU without going to a Juco first. The added benefit of the draft is a bonus. Almost every player who goes from D1 to D1 has a stop at a Juco. Rare cases of NCAA waivers are the exception to the rule.

He could’ve transferred Rice->OU, just would’ve had to sit out a year. For whatever reason, this is less common in baseball than football and basketball. One theory (that maybe you can shed some light on) is that coaches don’t like burning scholarship/financial aid on players who won’t make an impact that season?

This is correct.

x2

No sense in over-analyzing this. Could be playing time, grades, family situation, etc. Who cares, kids transfer all of the time.

Kudos to Dane.

and in the Wayne Graham era at San Jac, 13 gators transferred to Rice.....and graduated...ripping the juco route is arrogant, elitist and uninformed.

nice job, Walt white wannabe
