Except that new cases are a leading indicator for future increases in hospitalizations, ventilator usage, and deaths. You comment will look as stupid to you in 1-2 weeks as it looks to many of us today.

If in 1-2 weeks our healthcare system is overrun and cemeteries are overflowing, then fine. I'll donate $1000 to a charity of your choice if that's the case. If not, you donate $10 to one of mine - deal? Should be easy to take money from someone stupider than you.

There is a huge gap between my comment and "healthcare system is overrun and cemeteries are overflowing". That said, if we can agree on more objective measurements and can agree that the charities are not remotely political, I'd be interested.

My county just put in a mask order for businesses. Honestly, I'd be surprised if Brazoria, Montgomery and Galveston counties don't follow suit.

The county had a survey put on twitter and received 17,000 responses. 80 percent of the responses wanted a mask order in place for businesses! That's amazing to me and should show people against masks that they're really in the minority on this.

I thought our system was set up to protect minorities from the majority.

I agree with you on masks, and borrowing a line from previous liberal thought, what we need is better education of the public.

Figured this would happen...thanks to our elected officials’ combined shitshow of a response, Americans will now know what it is like to hold an undesirable passport. Hopefully this will be a nail in the campaign coffin for anyone up for re-election this fall

I was at Home Depot in Webster on Monday (getting something for my dad in hospital).... mask rules were in place and signs in many places....

MOST people were wearing them... the few who weren't appeared to be 'trades' based on their dress and the amount (and type) of stuff that they were buying... and nobody said a word to them. One guy was actually leaning on the sign by the 'service' desk. I found that unbelievably ironic.

Isn't this the same EU that condemned Trump for banning travellers from China? That didn't age well...less than a week and I believe they reversed their position.

The EU is losing its grip on Europe with the departure of the UK. Other cracks are forming. Expect countries to go their separate ways on foreign travellers wanting to spend hard currency in decimated economies. I believe (I could be wrong as I'm relying on bad memory and news snips) Greece, Croatia, and Spain are opening up their tourism industry. Can Italy, et. al., be far behind?

I think the UK government would prefer everyone here take a staycation and keep all that fiat money they gave and lent out within its borders.

That study is way too technical for my tired eyes, but I think one of the points it's trying to make is that yes, there were lots of protesters. But because of the protests, there were also a lot more people staying at home to avoid the crowds and possible violence, so the net-net was not too many cases in the protest cities??

In any case, I'm not sure I believe the study. As I stated elsewhere, there are tons of factors involved in the increased cases around the country. Opening up the cities and states, protests, and just boredom for younger people coinciding with the fact that schools (or what was left of them) were out and kids/young adults wanted to get out and party after being cooped up inside for months are all equal factors.

The Mississippi Governor is blaming frat party rushes.

Everyone is going to blame whatever is most politically convenient to them.

This analysis seems reasonable.

I think I shall blame ice cream socials. Lots of votes in the anti-ice cream crowd.

Who has 2nd pandemic on their 2020 bingo card?

Double points if you guess it's origin country without reading the article.

New pandemic potential

Then there's this hilarious non-sequitur:
"Dr. Pan [a Democratic state senator] blames partisanship and misinformation spread by President Trump. On the weekend after June 20, when bars reopened in Los Angeles County, an estimated 500,000 people visited nightspots. Additionally, half of the restaurants visited by county inspectors are not complying with new public health rules, according to health officials."

When you think of half a million bar-goers in LA County, or the restaurant business, you think of hyper-partisan Trump-bots.

Of the four politicians quoted in the article, all four are Democrats, though only one is identified as such.

But when you realize how much of a one-party state California is, then I would suggest jsut saying someone is a California politician is pretty much tantamount to stating their party.

This is why I have such a hard time with the complaints about 'leadership'.

LA County went 70+% for Hillary. LA County is a sanctuary county. LA County decided when, how and under what circumstances to open bars in LA County... Those decisions are 'on them'. I'm wondering if the half of Restaurants that were not in compliance were shut down, or if they were merely given a warning or something. If they were shut down, great. If they were merely warned, then that's an enforcement issue.

So all of the results they're seeing are 'on them'.... and then they act as if had Trump told them to open or stay closed, that they would have simply complied with his recommendation, when they don't comply with Federal Law.
