@UNCW
So now that we are playing in the opening play-in round, its time to see what we can do on this road swing. We have 0 momentum and UNCW has a small amount. They have been much improved since Burke took over for McGrath. They still are not good. Seems like their play hinges on their freshman Phillips. He has been driving quite a bit so we need to stop him from getting to the basket. Linssen has come on strong and he hurt us some the last time we faced them. UNCW has not been a good road venue for us. While this was always a game I had penciled in as a loss, it is one we really need to win for confidence. We are already losers of 8 of the past 9. Heading into the tournament losers of 10 of the past 11 would not be a good thing. Lose this one and I am concerned as that would mean we lost road games to Elon and UNCW, 2 teams that, quite frankly, suck. That would be devastating for progress.

Vegas has UNCW as 1 point favorites. I see this also as a close back and forth game.

Drexel- 68
UNCW- 72

UNCW has the most annoying video feed I have ever seen. I understand that it's probably just the arenavision feed. But viewers at home don't need to see a cutaway of weirdo waiving to the camera every 10 seconds. If you're watching on TV it's a major distraction.

RE: @UNCW
7 turnovers in less than 12 minutes of play. Drexel is winning 20-19, but the way they're playing has all the makings of another road game disaster.

RE: @UNCW
UNCW appears to be a shaky offensive team. They're taking advantage of some of Drexel's poor offensive play but not all. The way Drexel is turning the ball over, they'd be losing by 20 against a stronger team.

At the under 4 timeout in the 1st half. Drexel leads the turnovers 10-2, but somehow still leads 26-25. That's being done with Butler on the bench most of the half with 2 fouls. and the dub has a major free throw advantage thus far.

Strange 1st half. Drexel leads by 5 despite the 10-3 turnover advantage for the dub. Drexel made 5 3-pointers, but also missed 8 of them...quite a few were clear open looks.

2nd half starts with 3 Drexel turnovers, and an 8-0 dub run. Here we go again.

Drexel down by 9 now, and another road loss on the horizon.

Turned the game off. At least they only have one more road game to lose after today.

RE: @UNCW
Can someone find out what Drexel's record would be if games were just the first half? I dunno if it's actually been a ton of blown leads this year or if it's just me. Spiker was supposed to be an X's and O's guy but this team seems to get routinely shellacked in second halves.

I don't agree with that assessment. His teams seem to me to have stronger 2nd halves because we are always playing form behind, at least on the road. The issue I have seen is the lack of competing where the game is over early due to poor effort etc. Tonight we started off alright but as JB noted, doom was always on the horizon with the number of turnovers. It was only a matter of time before they made us pay. I am still convinced there is something in our preparation for road games that is amiss that leads to terrible discipline and lack of effort. I think it goes beyond "we just aren't good so we lose games on the road because bad teams lose those games"

RE: @UNCW
The announcer last night kept saying that Drexel runs the Princeton Offense. Princeton was the first CBB team that I rooted for since my older brother went there and was a huge basketball fan. This was the Pete Carril days. What Drexel runs now doesn't seem to resemble what I grew up watching at Princeton. Princeton's offense was all about the 3-point shot and sneaky backdoor cuts. They do however seem to run an offense that revolves around getting the open look for a 3-point shot. But, Drexel doesn't seem to have the shooters to make this offense work most of the time. Drexel hit 5 3-pointers in the 1st half, which allowed them to lead, despite being outplayed. In the 2nd half, they made only 1 3-pointer. They missed 16 3-point shots for the game, which was a main contributor to being blown out last night. Many of those missed shots were easy open looks. If that's how you plan to run your offense, you've got to make those shots. That was a total embarrassment last night, and it now begs the question as to whether this program will ever be able to take the next step forward under the current regime.

Agree. While our starters all have some flaws, I think that the talent is there to the point that this collapse should never have happened. Usually, when a team, whether it be a pro team or college team starts a titanic like downfall, there's something that you can pinpoint. Usually it's a major injury to a starter. I have no answers for this team. That had their best game of the season against W&M in January and it's been a sinking ship ever since.

If the game ended at halftime, we would be 9-8 in the conference instead of 6-11. 1 game would be converted to a loss (@Elon) but 4 would be converted to wins. Nonconference is less affected, as we would be 6-6-1 instead of 7-6. So maybe the effect is not as pronounced as I had thought, but we definitely have blown some leads in conference play.

EDIT: On this recent 1-9 skid, we've had a better point differential in the first half than the second half 7 of 10 times. The three exceptions are that first half from hell at Northeastern, the game at Delaware, and the comeback falling short at W&M. I guess my point of view is somewhat clouded by recency bias.

Coaches are judged by their records, and on that basis, it's hard to justify keeping Striker. I see two possible reasons for keeping him: (1) We don't expect our teams to win (or don't care), or (2) He has some special quality that makes it likely that the team will perform better in the future than it has the last 4 years.

RE: @UNCW
He will be returning almost if not everyone next season. If his team is not competing for top seed, we have to really start looking inwards at our true expectations and desires of our program. With that said, our luck will have it that we will return everyone and Butler or Cam will have some fluky injury that will derail the season and we will have more excuses.
