JMU Change of Status
This is fantastic, if for any reason other than Dukeman2 keeps running out of one liner JMU attacks with each passing year.

JMU Change of Status
I anticipate we’ll debut in the 100-130 range. We should be ahead of George Mason but probably behind the UDs and VTs, as much as some on here don’t like to admit. It’ll be a little humbling, but it’s start.

More specifically, my guess is around 125-175.
Elon just reclassified as a National University and is ranked #84.
Samford University just reclassified as a National University and is ranked #147
Belmont University reclassified and is #166
For what its worth,
GMU is #153
VCU is #162
Wow GMU used to be in the 130s. I know new universities have been added that fall ahead of them, but not 20 of them. They’ve fallen on their own somewhat.
Meanwhile, VCU was in the 170s and has slightly improved.

RE: JMU Change of Status
Now the question is, will the AAC take notice, appreciate, and invite us to the party? I know, I know... I'm getting ahead of the game, but it certainly will not hurt and I believe all their current members fall under a national ranking.

Seems like w/ grade inflation & honors/AP classes being the norm rather than the exception, kids gravitate to where the money is. Kind of ironic considering the disposable income in NoVa /Richmond compared to 20-30 years ago.
My experience with this having a senior in HS, that was accepted early decision to JMU (and everywhere else they applied). Everywhere else he applied has been quick to throw money his was from both other in-state VA public schools and out of state privates. He is going to JMU b/c that is where he really wanted to go all along and we have planned for this as parents. He is a very good student, top 10 in his HS and very involved and an athlete. My experience is schools that need enrollment and students or need to improve their academic profile will throw the $$$ at good students to try to sway that decision (i.e. CNU, Longwood, etc...). Schools that don't need the enrollment don't throw the money (i.e. JMU, W&M, VT, UVA). Also private schools are quick to get you down to equivalent of a state school if you are a good student (i.e. Bridgewater, LU, etc..). And the only out of state he applied to, Seton Hall (huge endowment) got it down to what a VA state school would be immediately. It is all related to how badly the school needs more enrollment and needs more good academic students how much $$$$ they are gonna give out.
I do think state schools in VA could and should do much better overall to in-state students. North Carolina is much more generous and advantageous to in-state students but it is also required as such in their state constitution and there are some very good in state public schools in North Carolina similar to Virginia with all sizes and flavors.

Obviously a product of superior upbringing!
Appreciate the insight. Makes a lot of sense. In retrospect, I underestimated the compounding power of what 30 years of increasing endowment can do for scholarship availability.

Good testimony ShadyP. JMU is COMPETING with a lot of other schools out there and we all know money talks. We have done great work with our scholarships and endowment, but there is MUCH work to be done. As JMaddy pointed out - giving day is just around the corner (Tues March 24).

Not good timing with the market sell off though. Hopefully we get a recovery soon.
