WBB hosts EMU 6:00 ESPN +
Our Lady Huskies 8-17 overall 4-10 MAC host Eastern Michigan University 13-12 overall 8-6 MAC tonight at 6:00. Last meeting EMU won 62-55 back in January. If ( and that’s a big if) our Huskies play like they have been in February this is certainly a winnable game. Getting off to a good start in the 1st quarter has been a problem so hopefully at home we can do that. Get some momentum going here ladies and good luck.

Couple of pregame notes 1) Castro suites up tonight(she did partake in pregame warmups at least)-first time in ?? 2) Eastern has no seniors listed in the program-all underclassmen

15 turnovers in the first half. Have the Huskies ever had 30 in a game (just projecting)?

Took some time to tune in Oklahoma State/Texas Tech and Kansas State/Iowa State ... these are not Top 25 teams but wow ... If NIU could play like any of those four, it would make a team like CMU look like they play backwards.
That said, liked how Grace Hunter, Chelby Koker and A'Jah Davis played tonight. Bodes well for future.
Got two guards coming in next year, including a point. Any word on what else with recruiting?

I’ve heard they are recruiting some judo pivot players. Which would be almost a first for this staff I believe.

Ninni Salmi, one of the five seniors in her last season, came in from San Francisco, and there might have been one other I can't recall. But otherwise, I think you're right. Seems that might have been part of the recruiting plan when Northern saw those 1 1/2 dozen top post players going elsewhere (previous wbb thread). Kelby Bannerman, 6-1, a senior at Hampshire, had an offer from NIU, but since then the list going after her has grown a lot. That being the case, this is a smart move. Hope one or both of those incoming guards are good shooters. And let's not forget the injured Errin Hodges coming back.
And asking again ... what happened to Christina Britter?

Ninni is a transfer from the University of San Francisco-a 4 year school-not a juco (junior college). So she’s not a juco transfer.

As far as Britter is concerned she is on the bench each game but never plays-one can only assume the coaches feel she’s just not good enough. I would like to see her get some minutes and see how she does.

I didn't say she was a juco transfer; was just referring to player(s) who transferred in. I know USF is not a juco. Transfers are not usual for Northern; can't recall many. I then agreed that since NIU didn't get top graduating h.s. post players, the juco route might be the way to go.
In any case, Northern has to get some talented height to go with fast guards. On a positive note, the half-court has looked a lot better even in losses.
Also ... better late than never ... a note about the CMU game ... At Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 22, all or parts of their national anthems were played as salutes for Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia) and Ninni Salmi (Kauhajoki, Finland). That's classy.

I specifically mentioned juco transfers not transfers from other 4 year schools in the post so Ninni should not have been mentioned in a your words “otherWise I think your right”. I was right since I wasn’t talking about all transfers but just juco.

If you have a chance to view Coach Carlsen's last Coffee with Carlsen video on the WBB Twitter page, she mentions that she doesn't expect to sign any additional high school players and will look to transfers and JUCO players to fill front court positions.
Not a long term plan, but necessary for next year.

---------------------
I don't know why Ninni Salmi transferred in (more playing time?) from 4-year SF, but thanks for being much more clear with the Carlsen citation than I was. The source is always better than second-hand info. (And I admit I missed that commentary.)
Imo Carlsen gets plaudits for taking the smart course: JUCO transfers will probably be easier to reach than transfers like Salmi, but with 18 of the 19 top-ranked post players in Illinois headed elsewhere (as an e.g.), and a ton of jc's in the state and region, the prospects will be brighter. I would be disappointed seeing talents like Koker, Hunter, Davis, etc., fronting a half-built team, but that also depends of course on the skills of the two guards Carlsen has already signed.
Her comment may (speculation here) also reflect that since Northern made its offer -- the last I'm aware of -- 6-1 Kelby Bannerman of Hampshire HS has grown a garden of offers. I hope she lands at a good program, if not NIU.
Also of note, 2020-21 will be Carlsen's sixth season and the first with a team of all her own players.
Also, perhaps a separate thread on wbb recruiting? I think we had one a while back.
