Quote:Expected to be completed in August, the $32.5 million Chippewa Champions Center, a building dedicated to the student-athlete experience and fans to watch football, will be empty for what is considered the program’s biggest game of the season.

I bet those donors are happy as it sits empty for the "biggest game of the season"!

This whole thing could backfire for CMU when we stomp them into the dirt again.

Who gets all the publicity then?

I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, neutral site games happen regularly. Bringing a Michigan MAC school vs Michigan MAC school into the Motor City has potential.

On the other hand, I think Central's screwing their fans/players for not having it at their place.

Is it confirmed this is just a 2020 Central thing? Is there a quote?

Planning on going. Hopefully you Broncos in the Detroit area who can't make games in Kalamazoo go.

CMU likely will be good next year again, so throwing it at neutral site may help us.

You keep saying CMU will be good next year, but they don't even have a quarterback at the moment. And they're rebuilding their O-line. And they graduated a 1,000-yard rusher.

Why are you so afraid of them?

14 is just a negative Nancy... go over to the hockey board...

I worry about his mental well being if for god sakes we do poorly this season in football.

I think CMU is ripe for another WMU smack down... so be it if its at Ford Field...
McElwain.

I think we go 6-6. I like how we get a lot of our tougher games at home, tho, so maybe 7-5 again but I'll say 6-6.

Do you remember how Big Bad McElwain lost to little Timmy Lester by 3 scores last year?

From an economic stand point I think this move will benefit Central Michigan more than if it had been played in Mount Pleasant. I would expect they will pull in far more alums than would typically make the trek up 75. I think if both teams are good, but this have the largest attendance for this game in years. I think there will still be more Central fans, though just because from what I read, their alumni base is more concentrated in Detroit than ours, which is more spread out.

If Central having a bad year, this could really blow up in their face.

I'd love to see those numbers because I can't believe CMU has more alumni in metro Detroit than we currently have. If they have more alumni in metro Detroit, it may be due to their satellite campus.

This seems to be a true student recruiting effort by CMU -- and there is no reason why we cannot set up the same recruiting effort without giving up a home game. I'm sure CMU very much wanted us to give up our next two home games -- thank God KB didn't take the bait.

Football is a huge recruiting tool and we all know that through our Cotton Bowl appearance. Let's say KB took the bait and we accepted the offer of Ford Field hosting the next four games. If CMU wins the next 3 out of 4, they could expect students to first visit CMU without even visiting our campus.

No thanks. Visit WMU -- we'll win EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The Mt. Pleasant community is NOT happy about this. At least not the Chamber of Commerce. They are going to take a hit financially, considering all the money spent on preparation for and during that weekend.

They already are angry at CMU for making students live in the dorms for 2 years (in many, not all cases). A lot of the apartment complexes are at half capacity right now.

I agree 100%. I'm sure we will use the game as a recruitment tool this year, but the risk is too high to make this more than a one-off.

WMU dropped the ball after the Cotton Bowl. Didn't take advantage of marketing AT ALL. Hopefully lessons were learned about missed opportunities in our marketing realm.

Seriously, UM and MSU have set up satellite offices off of Woodward. We don't need to go to that extreme just yet. However, we can match their student recruiting efforts downtown without giving up a home game. Plus, we need to keep this game on Saturday when potential students and recruits can visit our campus.
