My only point in asking what the budget is: how does it compare to what others at our level are doing? Are we being innovative in this day and age where our entertainment dollar is being fought over by all kinds of avenues. When is the last time we did a bobblehead giveaway? Ever? What about something like a Danny Pippen growth chart for fans 15 and under? Or have the team at the MAC Center during a December womens games to do some gift-wrapping tables. I don’t know, think outside the box. Tshirts are cool and all, but the fans aren’t doing their part and putting them on when they get to their seat.

All of this of course is contingent on a budget. And if it isnt even six figures then nevermind.

Call me old and decrepit but what’s wrong with marketing the game. It’s amazing how all those fans showed up for the women’s Ohio St. game or the Akron games and they didn’t even get free popcorn. I always laugh at the Indians marketing. Most of the time the team they are playing is not even mentioned. The last thing I want is Danny Pippen wrapping my Christmas gifts. I understand that these things might bring in very young or brand new fans. I get that. However what’s wrong with trying to attract some actual basketball fans. They must be out there. Hell there are 100 college games on TV every week. Somebody is watching them. Would a couple of commercials on Spectrum TV hurt? I hear Akron commercials on radio but not Kent. Can you target BG, Toledo, Miami etc alumni. Not the ones that come by bus but all the ones that live in the Cleveland, Akron area. I know an OSU alumnus that comes up from the Canton area to almost every game. He can’t be the only one in the world. I drove through Kent for three years before it dawned on me that there were D1 games being played there. An ABJ (when they actually were a newspaper) ad made it dawn on me. That was 1985 or so. Creative things are good for the non fans but maybe an effort to get people who actually like basketball shouldn’t be forgotten. After all if there are not enough of those people maybe it’s time to turn to soccer.

If you want to see bad attendance, just watch a MAC game on TV.... like Eastern Michigan Central Michigan and others.

Yeah. Those crowds are pathetic.

With our luck Pippen would get a serious paper cut wrapping presents and miss a crucial game.
