NCHC Round 1 puts us at 14, but risk getting jumped.

At this point, here is how I look at it:

Sweep Miami, sweep likely SCSU and beat Nodak in the semis in the frozen faceoff, we are in no matter what.

If we sweep Miami and say St Cloud and play UND in the first round of the Frozen faceoff , guess who's going to Minneapolis . I'm already working Lawson lunatic vocabulary , "F' und "F" und .

#12 through #20 is pretty tight. If we win four straight and get a little help, we might be in the thick of it yet.

First things first. Let's sweep Miami this weekend...…….then go from there. There are many possible scenarios. I always like to remember that 2 years ago National Champion UMD was the 16th and last team to make the NCAA tourney - by the smallest possible margin - 1/10,000 of a point!

And don't forget about the possible importance of the NCHC Tournament 3rd place game. In 2014 North Dakota lost thier semi final NCHC Tournament match up, was out side the 15 and needing a win or tie in the 3rd place game vs WMU in order to get into the NCAA Tournament, which they were successful with a win and made it all the way to the NCAA semi finals! If the season was to end today with all the top 4 NCHC teams advancing to St. Paul, either a top pair wise #1, #5 or #6 would be playing in a third place game. This game is also at a neutral site, which comes into play when calculating pair wise.

Good call. I forgot about the 3rd place game.

I wonder if a sweep over Miami this weekend, a series win in the 1st Rd, & 1 win in St. Paul either in the Semi's or 3rd place game gets us in. I bet it's close.

Since St. Cloud has been coming on lately, I would figure that 2 wins over them at Lawson would have decent Pairwise value.

SCSU has been playing lights out lately and will be a very tough out for any of the NCHC teams. They recently swepted UMD at home, picked up 5 of 6 points vs North Dakota at home and split with Denver on the road. They got UMD on the road this weekend and maintaining the home ice advantage in WMU home series vs Miami is critical.

RE: NCHC Pairwise Rankings Week of 2/24
Guys, a lot of good things can still happen for this team.

For instance, look at the WMU 2011-2012 CCHA championship team. They finished 21-14-6 and won the CCHA title. Yes, that team was stacked like this team, but I believe this group of players are among the best that WMU has ever had. WMU beat a very solid Miami team in the semis 6-2 and then we all know what happened in the championship game vs scUM when we sent little dwarf Hunwick home crying once again.

We win the next 4 (sweep Miami and SCSU) and just get to Minneapolis anything can happen.

RE: NCHC Pairwise Rankings Week of 2/24
Yeah a lot of air came out of my sail too. I can't imagine how the team is handling it. We played fantastic this weekend and came away with nothing Pairwise..wise.

It's a little tough right now because you have to guess winners for the subsequent rounds of other leagues tourneys. But I really don't see a path that doesn't include a sweep of Miami, winning the 1st round, and taking a game in Minny. (Even if it's the 3rd place game.) I think we can survive a 2-1 first round outcome, I don't think it needs to be a sweep. But if it's a sweep I don't think that's enough to go 0-2 in Minny. I think we can survive a tie in a game against Miami, if we go 2-0 in the 1st round, but that's not a great place to be, and I think we could be knocked out in that scenario by a hot team jumping us.

2013/14 Miami was pre-season top 2 ranked team in all polls, also picked to win the NCHC, ended up dead last with a 6-17-1 Conf record/15-20-3 overall.

In the conference tournament, #8 seed Miami swept #1 seed/conference champion SCSU on the road, then knocked off #2 seed North Dakota in the semi finals, but fell short losing to DU and Sam Brittian, a game where they out played DU.

I'll take a healthy WMU, playing good hockey come conference tournament time vs back into the National Tournament via pair wise.

That's very true, but hockey's a game of bounces: one bad bounce in our next few games & we could be done. Also you want to try to get the highest seed possible - although in hockey seeds don't matter as much as in basketball or football.

Based on your hockey rhetoric up to this point I thought you had already considers us “done”.
