RE: Drexel (Thursday/7 PM); Delaware (Saturday/7 PM)
Hope that Dodd can go in the CAA tourney. I don't know the injury but we do need him for some good minutes. Hope he can suck it up for the team. This team is now rolling but need just 1 more piece and he's it. Boggs was good but we need that extra size that Dodd has to make a run at it next weekend. The team is playing well. Burke is the perfect coach for this team. And, can you imagine next year with a few more bigs and pieces? It will be terrific!! The CAA is on notice next year without question provided that the right decision is made and I'm pretty confident now that it will be. Otherwise, there will be a strong backlash at this point. The evidence is right there and we have a guy that it already getting it done with several pieces not there.

Maybe I'm just a fan of Burke but I know good basketball when I see it. Burke and staff have really done a good job of motivating and teaching the game. And, yes, the players are playing to their strengths lately too.

I actually though Gadsden ran the offense better than he has all season when he was forced to play PG tonight. We had a lot of trouble when him and Shy were both off the court in foul trouble though.

What’s this you say? Someone other than Shy can run the offense? You mean a D1 guard can dribble the ball? Who’d a thunk it!

Facts will always get in your way. Look at the first half offense where Shy only played 7 minutes and look at the second half where he played all but three minutes. If he had to sit this game, we'd have lost.

Burke is 5-3 with Phillips healthy and playing a full game.

There really isn't an arguement to be made here. We're a different team when Phillips in on the court. I just wanted to give props to Gadsden. He didn't make the same mistakes tonight that have haunted us with him at the PG prior. The run they made in the 2nd half was when both of them were out and Tolefree/Okauru were our primary ballhandlers. Gadsden just not making mistakes is a plus for us when Shy has to sit.

The past two games have been solid. The ball moves crisply, players are aggressively driving to the basket and the hustle on defense is quite evident. Think back a couple months, and how dreadful things looked......Hire Mr. Burke.

That was true. Season low four turnovers for the team is the proof. And I really think that comes down Burke having them play within their game. Gadsden is more of a spot up shooter. He tends to get in trouble when he drives and either turns the ball over or makes a bad pass. He really didn't try to make drives last night.

Phillips sure looks a lot like Robert Underdunk Terwilliger Jr., PhD

He did this in like a month with injuries on top of an already depleted roster

We lost to Drexel with Toews and Dodd. We beat them without those two. And the energy is like night and day.

The issue with that style is it wear thin eventually. It definitely works, but the question is always for how long before he gets tuned out. Plenty of coaches have had success with this method, but usually all wear out their welcome at some point.

BTW congrats on the win last night. Hard to win if you dont hold onto the ball

The only difference is with Burke is he’s just as passionate when they do something positive. He’ll meet them at half court to give him a high five, he told Boggs that he was proud of him in the post game last night. While he did lay into Sims, it was constructive and it worked. If he keeps getting results I don’t see why it would wear thin.

We also played the worst team in the league and got absolutely rolled. Burke has done a really good job, but layoff the excuses. He could have done better in game planning without Shy, that's a fact. No one is perfect.

Correct me if I'm out of place, but there seems to be substance with Burke. Yes, the first thing you notice with him during a game is his energy and animation, but there have been substantive changes with the team. There are risks with hiring him for sure, but his style doesn't concern me; a similar style worked for someone like Buzz Williams.

I wanted to see a situation where Shykeim is out of the game and our other guys handle the rock without turning the ball over. They did that last night.

That was tangible improvement from just a couple weeks ago.

Granted, Drexel is playing some awful basketball right now. I'd like to see us keep that trend going against Delaware and into the CAA Tournament as well. But Burke is checking every box down the stretch, and that's exciting.

I'm just not going to throw a fit if we go through the coaching search process and don't identify him as the top candidate. If it's trending in the direction where he's our # 1, and remains so after the search is over, that's a best-case scenario. But we have a long way to go before that can be the case.

Fair. Being just as positive as negative can go a long way into not wearing thin. I would agree with that.

Young players trying to win playing time and games are going to respond better to a guy like Burke than say a ACC top recruit kid who knows how good he is. It is who Burke is I think and for now its seems to work pretty damn well for him. I could see it getting old for a team over time but now it's fresh and they seem to roll with it. Last night was a solid win for them. I think just the fact that the players are maturing is huge, they seem to like each other and just want to win. It is a plus for Burke.

If you go back to his first win versus Northeastern he mentions that they needed to get results for his style to stick. To his credit they have. He knows what he's doing.

When we start competing with ACC teams for recruits we can address that problem. Until then Burke will always be working with lesser talented players competing for PT. Lets not forget, Okauru was a 3 star out of HS and went to a P5 school. He seems to thrive under Burke and is his most vocal supporter. He is looking like a 3 star for the first time in his college career. Simple questions. Are the players improving individually under Burke? Is he developing the talent he has?

When questioning if Burke's style is sustainable, I think this simple statement is extremely important. His enthusiasm would wear thin if it were inauthentic.

Burke has mentioned on multiple occasions that Okauru was struggling with confidence. It seems like he's really benefiting from Burke's confidence in him, and it sounds like his role has been simplified, or better defined, and he's responding.
