This is why gamblers shouldn't bet on single games, or worse yet, halves.

I thought EMU would kill Central in the 1st half. They are reeling and this is their 3rd game in 5 days (Tuesday, Thursday, & today). They were down in Miami Thursday and now at EMU.

And EMU can't hit anything and can't get their fastbreak offense working and it dissolves into a sluggish half court game.

Maybe the 2nd half will be MUCH different. That would be my bet 03-lmfao

04-cheers

Absolutely.

Binelli went from red hot to ice cold this week.

Such is college sports, esp basketball.

What a weird game. I almost left after DiLeo hit that 3 to put them up 13 with just under 8 minutes left. Ty Groce got an and-1 right after so I stuck around. Glad I did. It’s nice to be on the good side of one of those games for a change.

If CMU was tired, they sure didn’t show it. They were faster and showed way more effort than we did. They lost because their coach is an utter moron. After DiLeo hit that 3, Murphy put James in for Spottsville for added length, and the guards stopped fronting the high post. We stretched the zone and dared them to beat us inside. CMU kept passing the ball around the top and DiLeo never got another clean look. If Keno had half a brain, he would’ve put his best passer in the high post and try to beat an isolated Toure backdoor. But Keno is an idiot and made no adjustment. It’s pretty tough to get outcoached by Murphy. Not sure what Bob sees in him.

Montero was the hero on both ends, Chris James’s steal/dunk made the building erupt, and Toure hit some massive free throws down the stretch. It was almost a disastrous game (why on earth did Binelli get so many minutes?), but I’m glad we pulled it out. Kudos to the players and the staff.

Also, Shamar Dillard was active in the 4 minutes that he played. I wish Murphy played him more...and Binelli less.

Sam we shared that feeling after the DiLeo bomb, I declared the game gone and thought about going home as well.

The CMU players wanted this game more, they beat us to all the loose balls in the first half and their 2-3 zone equaled ours in effectiveness. Keno, however, bailed us out as you said, Murphy plain out-coached him. Pulling Spottsville was the right move when you need to go on a offensive run. For some reason as well Keno switched to man defense and did not have the personnel to match up with a driving Ty Groce. It forced help and that allowed Montero some awfully nice looks on kick out passes.

I'm not suggesting that we played well today, we did not. Toure seemed out of sorts and the medical staff looked at him twice. I thought the officiating today was the worst I have seen this year, lots of banging was allowed underneath while a lot of ticky tack bailout fouls were called elsewhere. Much of Keno's performance seemed devoted to referee influence and I would say it worked. Still, at the end of the day, unlike the heartbreak of Akron, NIU and BSU, we stole one today and the Michigan MAC Trophy is back in Ypsilanti.

Good stuff Jerry. Hopefully nothing is wrong with Toure. He seemed to perk up in the 2nd half, though.

Chris James has improved immensely on the defensive end. He was a step or two behind earlier in the year, but he’s really figured out how to play at the top of the zone. And only a freshman. He’s going to be a good one.

RE: Game Week: NIU and CMU
Our full court press today was of a suffocating, ball stealing variety instead of the just slow down the opponents offense type it has been in the past.

As of now, we only lose Toure next year and we will not have a skilled yet unathletic Big three of Jackson, Minnie and Thompson. What we will have, is a bunch of equally skilled guys with a whole lot more foot speed and hops like James, Dillard, Groce, Spottsville, Parris, King, Barnes, Gibbs, etc...

Finding a big man like JT4 or Toure is incredibly difficult. If we can't why not install Binelli as the center and use our quantity over quality to play the "40 minutes of hell" full court press that Arkansas used in the past. Just an idea.
