STUPID MAC OFFICE!!!!!!!

3 MIDWEEK GAMES IN NOVEMBER 03-pissed

I THINK THEY INTENTIONALLY TRY TO HURT TOELDO'S HOME ATTENDENCE SOMETIMES....
MAYBE THEY DON'T WANT THE OTHER SCHOOL'S PLAYERS TO BE AFRAID WHEN THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TO PLAY IN FRONT OF PEOPLE IN THE STANDS...………

It's better than 4??? Which can we fact check here? 3 is low compared to years past.

We play a G5 top dog at home. An FCS game in September which should draw fine. Two rivals who travel at home in October... That's 4 games between 20k and a sell out pretty much guaranteed!

The MAC made an effort to keep rivalry games on Saturdays in October, specifically the 17th... That's a step in the right direction. Remember playing BG midweek in 2014 and 2015?

Also there are significantly less November MACtion games. Akron plays none! If you want to go 0-12 we can play on all Saturdays next season...but geesh.

We get a bye before we play the returning MAC WEST Champ. The schedule is good. I like being on the spotlight for TV. It's better for the league we have a pulse of a crowd compared to Kent or BSU.

RE: MAC FB Schedule 2020
Weekday games per year
2011- 6
2012- 3
2013- 3
2014- 5
2015- 4
2016- 7
2017- 6
2018- 5
2019- 4
2020- 3

We also don't have a stupid bye in Week 2, and don't open up on a Thursday vs. an FCS team. Get over it.

RE: MAC FB Schedule 2020
Wow! This is a very exciting schedule. I only see two gimmes on this slate, Akron and Central Connecticut State. On the road at Tulsa and MSU, having BGSU, Ohio, Central, and Ball State at home. Toledo better be ready to play. I guess we will find out what this new coaching staff is made of.

RE: MAC FB Schedule 2020
Tough schedule, with lots of opportunities to gain national respect... I was pleasantly surprised to see we only have 3 weeknight games, but it sucks that 2 of them are on a Tuesday.

We already know the homecoming game will be a day game ... but I'm really hoping for night games against San Diego St. & BGsucks.

MAC FB Schedule 2020
Yes we have two weeknight home games

When you look at the league, UT draws better buts on seats and eyeballs on screen on weeknights than other other member schools. As a league there are more Saturday home games in November. This schedule as a whole is progress.

But they still cannot figure out how to get Toledo to play Miami

Also no game the day after Thanksgiving. Our byes Aug-Sep5th, and 10 days from Nov1-Nov11. Later season start and early season end. It will be tough but I like it.

BG game on Saturday after UT fall break Thurs/Friday = no student fans

Bologna. 50% of our students are from Toledo. They will give up a weekend of family which they already see because they commute to get drunk off their azz in the renewed rivalry with bgsuCKS.

Yea, sure 03-weeping

RE: MAC FB Schedule 2020
I think it's a pretty interesting schedule. Enjoyed the History of Mid-week Games. Obviously things could be worse.
Glad we aren't playing anyone I've never even heard of. Actually--I can't say that I've heard of Central Connecticut State...but at least I've heard of the state.
I wouldn't predict any sellouts before we play Ohio....other than Ohio since it is homecoming.

I hope we have enough talent for the new coaches to get coached up to challenge for a championship. It's weird to look over the schedule and have to think of EMU and BGSUx as significant threats...

It's somewhere near the center of the state.

The goofy kid has it right this time. LOVE that bye being later in the season and the CC game giving a reasonable rest after a very competive three game opening. Big G5 at home. B10 on a not too far away game. Home against OU and BG, and "home" against EMU, what a terrific start all while the weather is reasonable.

Maybe we've just got too used to complaining? Trees and forests.

I personally want to offer my thanks to you guys for being the marquee program that ESPN wants to televise. "Fans" pointed out how grateful that he was that you had ONLY three mid-week Maction games this year. Hell EMU has only had three such games in the last THREE years and none have been in Ypsilanti, I suspect that is at the behest of ESPN.

I realize this provides national exposure and obviously a big paycheck to the conference, but I wonder how valuable the ESPN contract is. I cringe when they pan the stands at those frigid mid-week night games and the attendance approximates a high school crowd. The program with the most gate receipts, Toledo, is also carrying most of the ESPN TV water for the entire conference and that is clearly unfair. Such games depress your home attendance in a dramatic fashion.

Then again I may be totally off the mark. Perhaps those nationally televised games pay off in recruiting and I am oblivious to that fact. Nevertheless, as a fan I thank you guys for playing such contests and allowing me as a fan to watch my team on Saturdays.

Your thoughts?

they pay minimally. the MAC has repeatedly signed away game rights, including scheduling, for national tv exposure, not income. the money the league makes and then gets distributed to each school is less than the stronger programs would be making on more saturday games. they do it primarily for the recruiting benefits and national exposure.

The only value in the ESPN deal, if there is one, is recruiting-and that is mentioned over and over again by coaches-national exposure helps in recruiting, whether it is actually true who knows but they either believe it does or feel need to tote the MAC line on it

When you beat BG 8 years in a row you can expect minimal fan interest, even if it's your rival... Now BG will actually bring more than 500 and their band..plus we may actually head into the game, expecting it could be competitive! As long as we aren't worse than 3-3... I'll expect a sell out for BGSUcks.

RE: MAC FB Schedule 2020
My input on this....It's been about 15 years of this, and every year a bunch complain like its the first year we don't have all Saturday games. I guess you can still choose not to, but I feel by now we should all have moved to acceptance. I think ratings have dipped so they have toned back the number of games which is good.

November attendance is completely driven by how good we are anyway. if we're 6-5 on a cold November night, do we really think that many more people would be there on a Saturday? When we have been good, we've have 20,000+ on weekdays.

I don't mind a few weekday games. I like having something to look forward to during the week. When Toledo isn't playing i love to watch the other MAC games during the week. Sure there is no tailgating on a weekday, but even as someone who tailgates with the best of them, I'm not going to be there more than a couple hours before the game anyway on a cold day.

Finally, that last Tuesday, I love and have been asking to play on that day instead of Black Friday for a while. A ton of people have that Wednesday after off. If you are worried about attendance, I honestly think we would draw better on that Tuesday than Black Friday anyway. I will never understand why people don't come to a game on that Friday, but they just didn't. I'm happy it will now open up a long weekend to go somewhere and not having to stay in Toledo for a game. Maybe we will schedule basketball that weekend.

Rant/thoughts over
