Tulane Rice Costal Carolina the list is long of non power 5 schools that compete at the highest levels in college baseball. Everyone knows where I stand on Rock he should have been fired 8-10 years ago. Even with the sec in a back yard there is plenty of talent in this area to compete in the AAC. Hell if you look at our records over the years most of the time we beat the sec schools but follow it up with series losing sweeps to Belmont. He is the ending years of Tommy West (puts 0 effort into recruiting) and Tubby Smith (apathy) all combined and we won't win until he is gone.

SPOT ON!!!

RE: Tiger Baseball
As much as I hate to tell coaches that they should no longer be apart of a program, I agree that I do believe it's time for the Tigers to move on from Coach Rock. First, this is a sport that's not bringing in any money. As weird as that sounds, but fans are getting in free and no telling how much the school is paying for umpires (if the school pays for them). However, with the amount of stuff the school purchases for the players when it comes to equipment and apparel, there's no way the school is making any money. Also, let's not fool ourselves, one of the reasons why we fired Tubby Smith was related to finances either.
Also, it's been since 2012 or 2013 I believe since we have went .500 or higher in conference play. I don't think we have had a season where we went above .500 in conference play since joining the American.
In all fairness, we are also having a facility issue, especially to the minor sports. Our minor sports are paying the price of having to deal with a land-lock campus that's going on. There's just no room when it comes to building new things for our minor sports. There's just not. I saw a picture of Houston's baseball locker room/facility, and they're 10X better than our baseball locker room/facility. We just don't have the facilities (specifically in our minor sports) that is compared to schools in our conference.
I do think he could do a better job in recruiting. He has a tendency to go with a lot of JUCO (which i get it, but not the biggest fan of) and love players out of Illinois I believe. Maybe perhaps go into Nashville, Birmingham, Little Rock, St. Louis, Atlanta, and New Orleans suburbs and get more of those players. Maybe he needs to change his recruiting map to a different region of our country.

It's a throwaway sport. As long as he keeps his nose clean the school is not going to worry about results. We do not have the money to throw into the program what we would need to compete.

There’s not a lot of baseball talent in the area and the top kids are going to go play in the SEC.

This is the point I made with the late and great GA. Its non revenue. As long as he doesnt bring public embarrassment, hes fine.

I understand that, but what's why you go out and recruit. I'm just saying this, I understand that baseball is a "non revenue" sport. In a matter of fact, it'll be better financially if we cut baseball due to financial reasons. However, I see ECU be a top 25 team and made the postseason, I saw Wichita State be a legit threat 5-10 years ago, and Tulane is currently in several top 25 polls. Why can't Memphis join them? I understand it's a "non revenue" sport, but that doesn't give the coaches an excuse to have mediocrity season year in and year out.

No sport is being dropped.

But yeah, absolutely no reason why we cannot compete. Even if you believe we situated poorly, geographically speaking, to succeed in baseball, RECRUIT ELSEWHERE.

ECU is a dumpster fire in football and basketball. Wichita doesn't play football. Since Memphis is limited by G5 money, the pie that is being divided is a whole lost smaller than SEC schools. If we have to choose, not sure football and basketball need to suffer at expense of baseball.

RE: Tiger Baseball
ECU is in a great spot for baseball. Wichita invested a ton of money in baseball back in the Gene Stephenson days and were, indeed, a power. I don’t know how good they are anymore.

Most schools who compete nationally in this league do so because they are sitting on fertile recruiting ground. Take a look at the Perfect Game website and see just how many teams from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, & Texas descend upon Emerson, GA each summer to play in the WWBA World Series. Our area has a few teams, but nothing like those.

A very curious stat. Rock is the ONLY Tigers coach since 1965 to have 5 straight 30 win seasons. Kilpatrick had 4 straight 30 win seasons twice but never 5 straight.

Maybe 4 or 5 more compare to Kilpatrick's finals five seasons. His last few teams played mid 50 game schedules.

Looks like 5 in a row is a safe bet after a 10 run 5th. 20-1 Tigers bottom of 7th.

Down 4-2 in the bottom of the 6th. Goodman took a 1-0 pitch yard for a grand salami. 6-4 good guys after 6.
