These stats obviously involve football, but I would guess schools do the same type of thing in basketball. What does it mean to get an "offer" when school's give out hundreds of offers each? USM gave out 587 offers- Probably offer every decent player within a 300 mile radius of their campus. By comparison Arkansas "only" offered 290. I guess there's no way to know how many turned them down or how many offers were given to kids they really didn't want unless dozens of players turned them down. I once heard we offered about 30 players if we had 3 slots. That may actually be low based on these football numbers. I often wondered if we routinely offered the 4 star (and very rare 5 star) players that come out of Arkansas. I guess there is no reason not to. Although I remember Newell once saying "A big part of recruiting is knowing who not to waste your time on".
