Rice MBB story in the Chronicle
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-s...064940.php

Quote:“After freshman year, I had a choice if I was going to leave or not. I didn’t play much, (so) it was an opportunity to leave,” Martin said. “But no. I came here for the academics. And once coach Pera got the job, I was committed.”

Four of the Owls’ five seniors started their careers at Rice — Martin, Ako Adams, Tim Harrison and Addison Owen — and all five, including graduate student Tommy McCarthy, started in Saturday’s win over Charlotte.

The team has increased their win total every year under Pera and now there is a core of talented underclassmen. If Pera can keep the team together, they should be better next year as well.

RE: Rice MBB story in the Chronicle
Martin and Adams deserve credit for sticking it out. There have been so few of them the last decade at that level - Seth Gearhart and Tamir Jackson are two others. Adams in particular is putting together all-conference stats. He’s shooting a higher percentage in 3 pointers than in overall shooting, which is a remarkable stat - especially when you see how many 3 pointers he takes.
