No, I don't agree with your assessment. The National Organization has no impact on the local councils and units. They are doing the Chapter 11 to pay off the victims and remain solvent.
I have an Eagle Scout son, and my daughter is on her way to Eagle, by this summer if she works her tail off. My daughter is still a Girl Scout and is looking to get her Gold Award, the GS equivalent of the Eagle rank.
What BSA has done for my daughter is nothing short of a miracle. She went to NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) and her group won the weeklong competition. She had learned and gained more leadership in this past year with BSA than she ever got from GS.
Scouting is a very worthwhile endeavor. Scouting can carve out more paths in the future for my kids just because of their accomplishments.
My son was chosen to go to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) the #1 High School in the nation, not only on his academic achievement, but his getting Eagle at 13 certainly cemented his place. They recognized the leadership qualities that the rank endows.
Scouting has truly transformed children's lives. I have seen the difference scouting can make. Parent involvement has to go hand in hand with your son or daughter's scouting experience. The parents are the watchers/gatekeepers of the Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. There are creeps and pedophiles everywhere, we are now more vigilant in screening them out. See the video they released explaining the need to go Chapter 11.

This is how a leftist "progressive" and completely misguided ideology destroys a once decent and proud American institution. Why most of America disagrees with the left.
there are alternative organizations to the Boy Scouts that dont have all the commie BS:
Quote:Our Vision
Our vision is to be the premier national character development organization for young men which produces godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.
Quote:Squad STX is a Boy Scout alternative based in the Texas Hill Country. They focus on camping and leadership development. Squad STX offers both weekend and week-long programs. It is aimed at boys 11 to 15.
Run by former military officers, this program is not affiliated with any specific religious group.

RE: Boy Scouts file for bankruptcy amid harrassment claims
My 8 year old is a Cub Scout. Quite frankly I was not too keen on letting girls into the scouts at first, but frankly it has not been that big of a deal. Girls were already attending a lot of the pack/den outings anyway with their siblings. Now, I do think that perhaps it becomes a bigger deal as you advance into the Boy Scouts (6th grade and up)- particularly overnight situations.
I can only speak to our pack, but we strictly ensure that kids and adults are not left alone on a one-on-one situation. Heck, we do not even allow our kids to be alone, our policy is they bring a “buddy” whenever they need to get away from the group.
Again our pack and den still encourages the same values and traditions that the scouts has always been in place.

Of course they will. Anyplace where they can get extra money.
I'm glad for NIU's daughter, so please don't take this the wrong way...
But Boy Scouts should be just that -- boys.
I get that they have to redefine, but that's their problem. It peeves me that they caved.
The Southern Baptist Convention has Royal Ambassadors (RAs) as their answer to the BSA. That's what I was in as a kid and where I would send my kids or grandkids.

RE: Boy Scouts file for bankruptcy amid harrassment claims
I join the scouts in 1968 as a cub and aged out as a youth in the late 70"s as a Eagle Scout before leaving the program in the early 80's. I got back in the program about 20 years ago when my son join as a cub. The rules that had been put in place by the BSA for adult volunteers since I first joined are vastly different today than they were when I was a youth.
As far as girls now being able to join BSA, the cub scout program is a family program where sisters of boy members have been attending meeting and events for years. The only difference is that they are now able to be members of the program instead of just tag a longs.
As far as troops. There are troops with boy members and troops with girl members at this time. The only events I have seen with both boys and girls troops at have been council or district events such as camporees and summer camp. Personally I am against the program going to coed troops.

To clarify, my daughter is in the same troop, but the girls are a separate part of the main troop. 256 and 2562 or 256G.
They don't have co-ed tenting arrangements and the girls might be in the same campground, they are separate from the boys. The patrols do the same planning for the campout as the boys, all are separate, but it is one troop. The girls go and do different activities than the boys, but no less hardy. My daughter is going to Owassipe in MI (Where the Order of the Arrow was conceived). OA elections were last night, I hope she gets tapped out at summer camp.

I understand that your daughter is in what is referred to as a linked troop Your charter organization sponsors a troop for girl and a troop of boys. The two troops have the same troop committee since they have the same charter organization but each has there own scoutmaster and assistants scoutmasters. The troop of girls has there own unit charter and the troop of boys has there unit charter. Therefor it is actually 2 troops even though they have the same unit number. Unit numbers are assigned by the local council not by national.
What I am against is a coed scout troop which is ONE troop with both boys and girls as youth members which is what some scouters think is the next change that will take place in the program.

Having girls defeats a good part of the purpose.
My deceased uncle was a long time scoutmaster and later camp ranger at a large BSA camp in in Eastern North Carolina. He said long ago that the day the BSA went co-ed it would be its downfall. He lead efforts several decades ago to get the Girl Scouts more into outdoor activities without avail. He even wanted the BSA to allow the GSA to use BSA camps. I miss him very much. He was a giant of a man that gave all of himself to the BSA. He was awarded every award the BSA offered and was also given the Governors award for merit for saving kids from a run away trailer full of supplies at a camporee in the NC mountains. He threw himself at the trailer and diverted it into an embankment. In doing so he shattered his femur in several places.
RE: Boy Scouts file for bankruptcy amid harrassment claims
Lots of reasons for the decline the biggest being the accommodation of gay members and gay troop leaders. I would also say the modern generations just don't like the activities BSA revolves around.
RE: Boy Scouts file for bankruptcy amid harrassment claims
I get that girls joined the Boy Scouts to get more than just being cookie pushers, but why wasn't an effort ever made to get the Girl Scouts to support the outdoor activities?

Dont be fooled by the pedos destroyed the BSA crap. The prog filth destroyed it and they have been losing members. Sure pedo cases hurt but this was all predicted years ago. Spin of the most evil. Half a lie is harder to see.
RE: Boy Scouts file for bankruptcy amid harrassment claims
Sad to hear this, but not surprised. Whether the Boy Scouts continue to “exist” or not, they are done, dead, finished, as a significant organization in American society.
