It’s official. The CCHA is being revived. Morris Kurtz: “Kurtz explained the decision to revive the CCHA moniker. "After extensive discussion and significant due diligence, it made sense to everyone involved to move in this direction...” (cont.)

The CCHA is back. Amazing. Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, MSU-Mankato and Northern Michigan are bringing the old name back for their new league.

Article regarding the "new" CCHA:

http://mihockey.com/2020/02/new-look-cch...announced/

No movement into the conference from outside, just the 7 teams that left the WCHA.

Gotta think Alaska schools are done with D1 hockey after next year and Alabama Huntsville too.

More shoes to drop? Hard to say. I really liked the old CCHA. It was a great mix of big, small, and middle......and geographically tight. I prefer for us to remain in the NCHC because even though it is very competitive, 3rd place and sometimes 4th place gets a bid.

I would have to think that Minnesota State would be a fit for that new CCHA. It needs a powerhouse program.

I wouldn't mind seeing a team like Miami(oh) taking off from the NCHC for that new CCHA and swapping in a team like Notre Dame from the B10... or AZ State. It would give us a bigger near field matchup with a larger name school in our own back yard...

Just spit balling.

You wonder if BG held onto the name back when it was dying so they could get rid of the Alaskas and Alabamas like this.

Moving to this new "CCHA" would have negative effects in recruiting and in Pairwise schedule ranking. Both would drop down a tier. We are playing the defending national champs in a key conference series this weekend before two packed crowds at Lawson Ice Arena. Friday night's game is nationally televised. Yeah, let's keep doing that!

I mean, if people are content with just making the NCAA Tourney once in awhile but not having the talent to win it, then sure let's join the CCHA. Personally, I'm for drawing in more elite talent while at the top half of the top conference in collegiate hockey and want to go for the whole damn thing. I'm down for doing it this year, in Detroit. Let's kick ass this weekend!

I like having Miami in the NCHC. I'd like to see them expand to 10 with BGSU & Arizona State.

You'd have 3 out west teams (Denver, CC, ASU) 3 midwest MAC schools (WMU, Miami, BGSU), 3 Minnesota/Dakota schools (NoDak, SCSU, UMD) and Omaha kinda in the middle.

I love the NCHC. Best conference in college hockey and we are the lone representative from the state of Michigan.

RE: Potential changes to NCHC and WCHA
I'd ignore rumors of WMU and/or MU going to the CCHA, probably started (and obviously fueled) by North Dakota or Big 10 fans who have never stepped foot in Kalamazoo or Oxford. The schools made the decision to go to the NCHC & want to compete @ the highest level possible, knowing the financial burdens.

Sucks seeing Fairbanks, Anchorage, & Huntsville left in the dust, but I'm happy to see Ferris St & the other GLIAC Michigan schools survive. BGSU and/or MSU leaving for the NCHC would've killed them as well.

My guess is Huntsville goes Independent. They don't seem financially in trouble as Fairbanks & Anchorage do.

I think the CCHA having a vacancy could open the door for Grand Valley St to go D1, or for Wayne St or Kent St to revive their D1 programs.

This could be team #8 in the new conference.

Well, if St. Thomas is joining the new CCHA, then by all means Western should leave the best conference in college hockey in order to be a part of this crappy conference with a nostalgic name. Makes total sense.
