Monday Musings
Good Monday afternoon all!
The murphy Push is on towards Cleveland as we swept our in-state rivals. Doesn't matter the sport, record, or score always good to puff out the chest a little bit and beat those too especially in one week.
As Emu football fans take a collective breath as the MSU coaching search found its guy in Boulder are any of concerned about whose playing quarterback and our HBC calling the plays? Emu doing a great job having an open spring practices with Michigan HS coaches and such.
Baseball won a game which is good then lost 2 which is meh. I think we lost almost 50 last year which is still less then half the tigers lost.. But can we just be a little better then that..
No I can't fix the tigers..
And that was a quick saunter in the NBA by Belein.

RE: Monday Musings
Belein is a great college coach, he was a "clean" recruiter and has no former players in the legal news like MSU's Cleaves and Appling. He took lesser star recruits and absolutely developed them, DJ Wilson and John Teske were projected to be bench warmers when they got to Ann Arbor.

The NBA, however, is a different environment, ask Calipari and Petino. John was a square peg trying to fit into the round hole, his coaching philosophy favors developing players rather than managing NBA egos. It was a train wreck for sure.

He will get a buyout from the Cavs and become the name that every University looking for a coach is mentioned, similar to Urban Meyer. Good for him.

I think it's a little unfair to pin Izzo with troubles of former players when it happened 15 years after leaving the program in Cleaves' case.

Pretty sure Appling didn’t get into trouble until after he graduated too (correct me if I’m wrong). Like Izzo is supposed to monitor what type of adults they become when they don’t play for him anymore. Weird comment.

Sam, I am pretty sure your correct, Appling and Cleaves did not actually "officially" encounter such legal troubles while at MSU. I am also reasonably sure that Aaron Hernandez did not murder anyone while playing for Urban Meyer at Florida, however it is clear that afterwards he did so on two occasions.

Izzo out recruited Beilein consistently, much like it appears that many football coaches doing to Creighton right now. A college coach can recognize a "bad apple" or at least a marginal kid and make a decision if that is what they want in their program. Just sayin.

Clearly Appling has some issues while in school. Dunnings III was later arrested for running a prostitutes ring and removed from office.

August 2010: According to records obtained by the Free Press, former Michigan State players Keith Appling and Adreian Payne were accused of sexually assaulting a woman during the fall of their freshman year in 2010. Then-Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III declined to press charges in the matter, saying no crime was committed and citing insufficient evidence.

Dear Friends,
Add to the above, a Central football player, Brian Edwards, being arrested last Thanksgiving, and being chased through a Central dining hall. He was originally recruited by McElawin to the University of Florida, but transferred to Central when McElwain landed there. Another quality football player recruited by McElwain.

RE: Monday Musings
Turns out our good friend Pat Narduzzi committed coaching violations (albeit relatively minor) and will be suspended for two practices this coming August: https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/med...violations

Like I said, the violations are relatively minor. But... "The university conducted adequate spot checks of the program, but the agreement said the violations were undetected in part due to the program’s practice of playing music to indicate when outside parties were present at the practice facility. Football quality control staff members reported that they would make sure they were not near student-athletes when hearing the music."

In other words, they knew they were violating rules and came up with a system to hide it when being evaluated. Pretty shady stuff.

RE: Monday Musings
This is an article about the Washington Wizards' rookie, Rui Hachimura, from Japan via Gonzaga. The 2/3rds of the article has to do with the "AAU circuit" and how players can play 4 game a day and maybe 60 during summer.

Two take aways: 1) wear and tear on the body, and 2) Outcome of games don't matter, lose at 10:00 a.m and then play again at 12:30.

Also the 'team factor' is gone.

Yep. And after the behavior of his team at the bowl game I'm really not surprised at all about this.

Say what you want about Beilein, but he never protected rapists like Tom Izzo.

RE: Monday Musings
This could be Murray State's "Thursday's Turd'...

"With 11:30 to play in the second half Thursday night, Eastern Illinois trailed Murray State 50-23, before Josiah Wallace's 3-pointer at the buzzer capped off a 63-60 win in one of the more remarkable comebacks in NCAA history.

Eastern Illinois became the seventh Division I team to win a game it trailed by at least 27 points in the second half, but the Panthers had less time to make up the deficit than the other teams on the list."

The article goes on to say for much of the time, Murray State had a 99.9% chance of winning. Well, this was the 1 in 1,000 where they didn't win.

E. IL outscored Murray State 40 - 10 in the last 11 1/2 minutes. Ouch!!!
