Klobuchar Says English Should Not Be US National Language, Reversing From Prior Vote
Well, there goes any claim of being a “moderate.”

Quote:Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) says that English should not be the official language of the U.S., a reversal from a vote she cast more than a decade ago.

At a campaign event in Las Vegas on Friday, Klobuchar said she has now “taken a strong position against” the English-language amendment, which she voted for in 2007, according to The Associated Press.

Klobuchar was one of 17 Senate Democrats to vote for the amendment, which would have reversed an executive order by former President Clinton that required government materials to be provided in languages other than English.

Her shift on the issue comes a week before the Democratic caucuses in Nevada, which has a significant Latino population and where she polls at about 10 percent support.

“I think that when you look at a state like this state, and a country like ours that is so diverse, you don’t want to have that provision in law because then it would be very difficult to have, say, government documents and other things translated into other languages,” she said Friday, according to the AP. “So that is not a position I take. I did vote that way, but way back then, along with many other people.”

Klobuchar is competing with former South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Vice President Joe Biden for support from moderate voters in the Democratic race following her third-place finish in the New Hampshire primary earlier this week.

On Thursday, Klobuchar received subtle criticism from Buttigieg, who, without mentioning her, pointed out that "some of those same voices" from Washington who criticize his campaign also voted to confirm former U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan, who presided over family separation policies at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — the only other senators still in the race — did not vote to confirm McAleenan.

Klobuchar responded by telling the AP she “vehemently” disagrees with Trump’s immigration policies while noting that McAleenan was recommended by former Obama administration officials and other Democrats.

The Klobuchar campaign did not immediately respond to an inquiry from The Hill.

Yeah, I mean it's not like English has been the language of this nation from the very beginning or anything...

"Her shift on the issue comes a week before the Democratic caucuses in Nevada, which has a significant Latino population"

Translation: She's a typical professional dem politician who lacks the slightest hint of integrity, character or honor....

These progs definitely aren't Sierra Club members. Have any of them realized how many trees will be "killed" by duplicating every form in English and Spanish? Sometimes Republicans think more like Sierra's. Trump just provided millions to plant more trees, and the Demons want to kill them.

I think you will see the so called moderate Dems(there are none)trying to appeal to the far leftists to try and get the Dem nomination. If one of them gets the nomination, they will then do an about face and try to sound in the middle to try and get the non lefty vote. I could see a great number of crazy Bernie's voters just not voting in the end and some even voting for Trump.

Geez, Klob I actually kinda liked you as the only centrist candidate that I felt was semi-honest. This is just pandering, and really bad pandering. Your votes speak far louder than hollow words on the campaign trail.

Who needs an official language. I speak Spanish. My ancestors spoke Spanish when they immigrated yet I don't see any reason not to speak English or learn it. I wish I could speak it without an accent but that's the least of my problems as there's many in the south, ahem, Stinky, that probably have molasses coming out of their mouths every time they speak. Me, I have tacos and enchiladas when I speak. Ummm, I'm hungry now.

This country is called the United States of America and to the south of us is one that's called Estados Unidos Mexicanos. I don't see them trying to change their language either.

Yeah, I talk with a red neck accent too with a tinge of Mexican. Come to think of it, there's this guy by the name of Shorty on tv that works on cars in Austin and that guy talks like I just described. Sounds funny as heck.

In a capitalist society, the language of business is the language of the land. It's that simple. A politician has no power in this realm of life.

And English is not merely the language of US business, but the language of worldwide business. That was a major change that I noted in doing multinational deals over 30 years or so.

Computing, shipping and aviation are what made English the lingua Franca in my opinion.

I remember a high school teacher saying, if you don't speak English well, you're limited to working at Fiesta.

I guess you could do construction too.
